Street Theatre or the Nukkad Natak, as it is locally known, is perhaps India’s most ancient form of entertainment. Since times immemorial, we’ve had motley crowds of people gathered around street performers at public places like in malls, market areas and road sides. Often these street plays are based on issues concerning the society.
With an aim to acquaint our young minds with this ancient but gripping art, an Inter-House Nukkad Natak Competition was organized for Grades VI to VIII on August 14,2024. All the plays revolved around social issues like child labour, unemployment, casteism and arrogance.
It was a feast to the eyes to see these young artists perform so well with such vigour. Their crisp dialogues and gestures held everyone spellbound. It turned out to be a memorable event for the Aaryans. The judges were so mesmerized with the performance of all the participants that they had a challenging time picking out the winners.
