how do you learn from a tutorial because people keep saying that you never really learn from a tutorial when you are just following through, for instance I'm learning how to make movement and I know what get axis does but I but I still don't have a clear picture. same with vector 3, all I'm asking is how did you really get an understanding of code to the point where you can feel confident in customizing it.
@dnadan8637 Жыл бұрын
Im not OP but Ive started learning unity a couple weeks ago, and I recommend you just start trying to make a game and not look at any tutorials and see what you can come up with just with the manual, documentation, and maybe the answers in forums, and see how far you get. I did 2 tutorials for full games and then I said fck it and went straight to doing a game idea I had without following any tutorials and just figured everything out with the manual and a lot of thought. I did not feel ready to do so when I started but I got comfortable little by little. Also, whatever this game you may try to make be, make sure it is very simple and something you know you can do. You dont wanna get stuck either.
@staticplays1871 Жыл бұрын
@@dnadan8637 how did you use the manual
@matthewgumabon7498 Жыл бұрын
I think following tutorials can be helpful, but the important thing is how you use them. 1.) Get an idea of the entire process of what you want to do. Watch some dev logs on KZbin. Chances are someone has already tried making a game similar to the ones you want to make. 2.) Try playing around with your software tools and see what you can accomplish on your own. 3.) If you don’t know how to do a thing you want to do, then Google a tutorial for exactly that (or reference a manual or user guide for whatever program you are using) In short, get an outline of what you should do, and once you have a list of tasks, use specific tutorials to figure how to accomplish those tasks

Right now I’m making a Minecraft, pikmin, Mario galaxy hybrid but I might drop the Minecraft aspect as the character doesn’t move smooth enough with gravity and blocks. Practice. Use tutorials just to start you out and then immediately try to do something by yourself, then return to tutorials whenever you get stuck or feel "there must be a faster/easier way", then return to practice and start the cycle all over again. When It comes to practice, think of something cool that you wanna make and It Is slightly out of your comfort zone, non inside of It because you need to get stuck at certain points so that you are incentiviezed to make the needed reasearch but not too much out of It that you don't even know where to start. I personally learned a lot of things by thinking at random "It would be really funny if i a made x" And then actually doing It "for the meme". It Is pretty fun too! So, to sum up everything: practice makes perfect

Perhaps you are rotating it on the x or y axis which which is causing rotation in the 3rd dimension. Try only rotating in the z axis

Hardest part about game development is decent multiplayer. Almost everything else is pretty easy if you are using a game engine like unity or unreal. Even with them standard multiplayer is easy it only gets annoying when using a database and a dedicated server.
