lovely little boat, I had one concern, the new crossmember you added, will that stop any water getting into the front of the boat running to the back and being drained out of the bilge drain plug? Is that TEN rod holders on the roof? boy your going to do a lot of fishing LOL. Good Luck
@Maxxifull
@Maxxifull 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Yea, the actual bilge is only in the rear part of the boat. The crossmember makes a wall so no water will go under the floor. Of course there is a possibility that some water finds a way under there, so in the future I will make a service hatch and fit a emergency bilge pump under the floor.
@notwocdivad
@notwocdivad 4 жыл бұрын
Very nice result! I did think you were going to fit the steering etc to the bulkhead behind the cabin windscreen, (like a car) especially when you said you were looking for as much space as possible rather than just move it a little way forward? must have misunderstood.looks brand new out on the water! Hope you catch plenty of fish now!!!
@Maxxifull
@Maxxifull 4 жыл бұрын
This is a very small boat, so it would not be parctical to sit in the cabin when driving, as you can not stand up. Now it's possible to drive the boat and use the fishing equipments from the same seat. And it's also possible to drive standing up.

Nice job mate. I got my hands on a similar boat. It needs the floor replacing. It had cheap ply down that wasn't sealed in or anything. It had all delaminated. I was wondering if it is worth putting down some marine ply and glassing it in? I have seen some people just opt for rubber matting on the bare Hull.
@Maxxifull
@Maxxifull 3 жыл бұрын
Hi, and thanks. I have seen many projects where they glass in the floor ply. Don't know which is better..? I just used marine sealant/glue to fit the floor in this boat. Sealed off all the edges. I use weather proof plywood with a plastic anti slip surface.

Will you do trim tabs? That will help you with the leaning issues
@Maxxifull
@Maxxifull 4 жыл бұрын
Will see. Have been fishing the whole summer so havn't done anything for it yet. Have noticed that weight also affects how it lean. If I'm driving the boat alone it goes perfectly stright. But with a friend it easily starts to lean to the left a little bit. I have two batteries on the left side so there may be too much weight on that side. Also the transducers are on the right side, so they tries to lift like a small trim tab.
@superbmediacontentcreator

That new piece you put in and glassed across the beam lacked weep holes. Further, your little transduce device is cute but as far as dept it is going to be three feet off from the actual keel.
@Maxxifull
@Maxxifull 4 жыл бұрын
Yea, thats because I don't want bilge water under the floor. If some condensation water is trapped there I can get it out elsewhere. I don't understand, how would it be 3ft off? I would say max 0.5ft off from the keel. Transducers usually isn't mounted on the keel anyway, so they are always a little bit off.

That's a great job you did there. Boat looks awesome. That looks just like a boat my friend had once, a 15ft half cabin too. We had a hell of a job trying to launch it off the trailer as it just would not float off easily. It took us a while to realise why. It had been converted from an outboard motor to an inboard. A 3.2 ltr marinised inline six BMW connected to a Kamewa jet drive. I think that set up was a little too heavy and powerful for the boat which is why we had a problem launching. That thing used to fly though. Great fun. The boat itself was made in Finland and was quite strong. Where was your boat made?

What would suck is if after doing all this work, then buying the motor, not being able to register it because of some back luxury taxes owed on it from the 70’s. In California I couldn’t register my 19 foot Bayliner one Year because I owed frikken luxury tax on it. They said I had to pay the 1,800 dollars or I couldn’t register the boat. Well shit I had no Idea that I’d be charged “luxury” tax on a 19 foot boat. It’s not like it’s a luxury yacht or something, it’s damn 19 foot boat.

Havn't calculated any exact amount, but everything is expencive these days. The boat was 650 euros, and only polyester and fiberglass cloth was maybe something like 300 euros in total, fillers and paint ~400 euros. But it doesn't feel so bad when you buy only small amounts here and then. 😄 Of course the new motor was the biggest investment in the project.

Have to check the dual transducers. Could maybe lift up a 1-2cm. Can be that they push up the right side. But also weight is not equal on both sides. Have quite heavy batteries on the left side and a passanger on that side would push down. When boating alone, it goes totally leveled at full speed. Going to change my 110Ah lead battery to a 90Ah lithium, that will save some weight on left side.

Thanks for your comment. A T-top would be nice on a bigger boat. This types of small half cabin boats are quite popular here where I live, and the purpose is that the cabin gives some cover from cold autumn wind when you are out trolling fish. Will also add a small diesel heater to keep the windows clear and warm up cold feets.

Is it just me or does anyone else think this is a bit slap dash reno. The transom looked terrible before glassing which hid the wooden mess but there shouldn't have been a mess in the first place. As I watch this more and more I get a cringy feeling because its as if there's no love involved. I don.t even own a boat but have done many projects over the years to recognise 'cowboy' work which I would class this as. The young lad has worked hard and spent lots of money on this I just wish his work ethic was better.
@Maxxifull
@Maxxifull 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your feedback. Also negative critic is welcome, then you can learn new things and make next project better. Trust me, there was not much loving feelings when cutting and sanding, totally covered in fiberglass dust, haha! What do you mean with the wooden mess, I don't understand? Had to replace the orginal wet and rotten plywood. How would it have been done right?
@mufuliramark
@mufuliramark 4 жыл бұрын
Maxxifull thanks for the reply. My comment about the wooden mess was with regard to 2:31 on part 1. I’ve reviewed it several times over again and maybe I’ve been overly critical. On the new transom wood being replaced, there are large gaps on the left side. I would have assumed that neat joints all round would be better. There’s maybe a reason why the gaps are so big which you didn’t comment about. As I said I’ve never owned a boat I’m only going on my building experience where joins are important. You’re project is actually a good one, is it your first. I intent to get a boat in the not so distant future and this size would be a great start. Please don’t take offence at my negativity, I’m just a grumpy old man, unfortunately I’ve watched many boat project videos but those were expert ones. You worked hard and finished with a cool looking boat. Well done All the best.
@Maxxifull
@Maxxifull 4 жыл бұрын
@@mufuliramark Of course it would have been best if the plywood was done in one piece and tight fit also in the upper part. But then it would have been needed to remove the whole upper part(skin) of the boat. One thing I didn't want to do. Now I had to do the transom plywood in pieces so I could get it tight under the fiberglass cut(edge) that was left from the outside skin. It was a pita to get the pieces fit, so thats why there is gaps on the top part of the plywood. All gaps was poured and filled with epoxy, so the strenght should be very good. The boat has been in active use the whole summer and there is no marks of flex or any stress cracks etc. in the transom area. Also, there was quite amount of small things done, that I forgot to document or I couldn't include in the videos, as they would have been too much and maybe not so interesting. Have done many different projects, mostly with cars and metal work, but this was first fibeglass project in this scale. At younger age I have done different car speaker enclosures out of fiberglass, but that was many years ago. No hard feelings, now we got a great conversation going. 😊
