Yeah luckily things have gotten a bit better over the past few months. Especially the ‘customs.’ And I put customs in air quotes because if 15 guys work on a knife, it is no longer a custom IMO.

Refreshing af to hear this. Years of wading in and out of various top shelf knife groups have often left me disappointed / numb in the lock step nature in each of them. HFB, DTK etc. we laugh at the cult culture but where’s the line? Is it all to intensify the secondary market? Because it’s become the flipping revolution. I started decades ago as a vintage knife collector. This new era of custom/mid tech drop to the hungry dogs is wild. So long as Jack Reacher and John Wick are rockin these tools there’ll be folks that’ll sell their kidneys to buy said tools😅 thanks for your diligence. Tough to face the wave and not just go with the flow. Bravo Zulu Sir

Thanks for the comment sir- since I made this video over a year ago, I can say that just avoiding the more toxic groups has allowed me to focus on the knives themselves and not some of the clowns that use them 😂 I appreciate your insights 🫡

It was very refreshing to see this video verbalize what I was somehow feeling! PS: (To reach that state of mind, it would be logical to buy various expensive high-end knives, but in my case, I don't have any high-end knives, so I am just jealous, lol)

Still prefer winkler as the 80crv2 holds a better edge as for tomahawks often were used for creating port holes in mud huts and opening stuff, it more less is the psychological factor then anything far more that then instances in which brought scrutiny upon some teams especially those that decided to have fighting matches with pucs.

just watched this an it’s true what you say about the community. they’re SUPER against doing any modifying or anything on a HFB and they’ll say it’s not a HFB anymore lol that’s pretty dumb and narrominded because it’s the same thing as if you put new scales on your benchmade or spyderco. still the same knife just custom to your needs and likes. the community is a fookin joke but the company is cool. andy is a good dude and he actually appreciates mods, just doesn’t encourage trying to sell them as if the shop made it for a high price.

I own 3 HFB knives and feel that the quality does not quite warrant the overly enthusiastic following. I received a Crow Jr. with a weird recurve and noticed a lot of grinds have a little kick out toward the handle end. I've had finishes arrive a little beat up as well. If I'm going to spend about $400 on a knife, I want it basically perfect so I can then scratch it up in use. However, HFB customer service took care of things, so I return for more because the designs are pretty and I want to support veterans in my knife collecting efforts. I have yet to find a reason to post on Instagram with my carry pistol, blade, and Jack Carr novel - I just don't get it. Am I missing out on some fanboy club perks? Good observations, thanks for the group insight!

I would never spend more than $200 on a knife. At the end of the day, it’s just a knife. My cheap (plain edge) SOG Seal Pup Elite knife is my favorite out of all my knives. Lol wow, knife drama. This phenomenon seems surround these “for military by military” survival knives constantly. I just started seeing this the last couple days, when Toor Knives review popped in and enter this “half face blades…” no one’s ever heard about, googled it sees the exuberant price tags and think they’re like the HK416 of the knife world. Save yourself the drama and git yerself a dam Grayman knife for around 100bux less, or a Becker BK18 for less than 100bux and be done with it.

@@the_pointy_end while listening to your never ending conversation, I am scrolling through and see that you have never heard of Becker knives? Not the kabar Becker but the OG Becker. Your a knife reviewer and you don’t know Becker? I am stopping the video at this point. I cant believe your a knife reviewer with so little knowledge. I do agree the HFB community is almost a cult. They won’t admit to recent QC issues. I ordered a shpos in 2019 and it’s perfectly awesome. Ordered a few blades in 2021 and 2022 and the finish and grinds are crap. Cerakote is wearing off from placing it in and out of the sheath. I have went back to Winkler, Bawidamann, and milmak blades. BTW, the tomahawk carrying is stupid.

@@jeremyshackleford3058 You aren’t wrong. Never ending is a good way to characterize it but at the time (about a year ago), I wasn’t used to the online knife communities. I also wouldn’t consider myself a knife reviewer - if you knew how much bandwidth I throw at this channel, you’d know I am just an enthusiast who likes and uses his gear. I feel like I do / have done a good job being up front and honest with my experience (or lack thereof). I had not heard of Becker knives but have an appreciation for them now - almost a year later. This channel is just an outlet… and I am a student to pointy things. Agree with your assessment of HFB. I plan to do an update in the near future. Thanks 🫡

I see this view point the same way I do when I hear people say they won’t go to church any more because of the hypocrisy of the followers or the priest. The message isn’t at fault but yet the message takes the blame? I don’t have a dog in this fight as I’ve never owned a HFB but I have tried to score on a drop once. If your reason of not wanting a premium product is because there’s a fatty out there somewhere with that same blade as yours then your way of thinking is flawed IMO.

Thanks for your comment. I definitely don’t take issue with the company or their pedigree but moreso the followers. Since recording this video, I’ve found so many other great fixies that are cheaper. I don’t disagree with you, if you focus on the fatties, that my logic is flawed but that was only a part of the entering argument- it was more about the culture and type of person who buys them up every Saturday at noon.
