youre pretty safe playing through HL2 without playing the first half-life. if you have no interest playing the first one a plot synopsis is all you need. the only REAL recurring character is the G-man and all the other ones the game just kind of pretends that Gordon already knows them.

@@ZoniesCoasters got it, thanks! Someone in my community told me that I didn’t need much context from hl1 anyways, basically an alien faction named the combine took over the world and dr breen is the speaker for humanity
