Cold rainy night in Beta City 17... The sky is filled with toxic gas, citizens are unable to breathe normally without a proper gasmask. The Metrocops are patroling the rainy streets of Beta City 17. In the dark alleyways there are people trying to hide from it. It feels like the rain never stops, therefore the City gets only more gloomy and dark. Some of the windows in the Apartment Block are still lit up, some people are still not sleeping possibly due to insomnia and overall anxiety heavily hitting them everyday. Some people are looking out of the apartment block windows leaning out and observing the greenish skyline with large skyscrappers scratching the surface of the toxic green air, CPs are patrolling the streets, APCs standing at the end of streets, constant sound of rain; never stopping. Some people are spreading rumours about a scientist named Gordon Freeman who was responsible for the world we know now. Freeman was responsible for the "Resonance Cascade Incident" at Black Mesa Research Facility in the early 2000s... The interdimensional rift that was created by the Anti-Mass Spectrometer brought attention to Xen creatures that started attacking earth. Freeman was very desperate to fix what he had created. They sent him off-world to the Xen Dimension to kill their leader Nihilanth. Freeman succeeded. He freed the Vortigaunts enslaved by him. Then the unthinkable happened. Freeman was gone. He hadn't came back from Xen to BMRF. Nobody knew what happened with The Freeman. People thought Freeman was dead. Gone. While the one threat stopped another came. Universal Union spotted the anomalies that were happening on Earth and decided to conquer it. The Earth didn't stand even a slight chance to the Combine OverWorld Forces. Humans lasted only 7 Hours fighting the UU Forces off. The so called "7 Hour War". The Combine won. The Earth as we knew it at that time changed drastically. The whole world was opressed under the new Intergalatic Superpower Regime. People still kept spreading rumours about Freeman; that he will come back and bring the end to all of this tyranny and horror the humankind was experiencing. The Citadel's Overwatch Announcer gave the briefing to all the Residents of City 17 that the lights in all the Apartment Blocks spreaded around the City will be shut down in the next 15 minutes. All Citizen closed the windows, tucked themselves in their beds, slowly drifting to sleep. After 15 minutes the lights were shut off. The City 17 turned even more into a dark, gritty place. The silence was unbelievably terrifying. The only thing that could be heard were Cremators loud footsteps outside in the rain, patroling the empty greenish rainy streets of City 17. Some people weren't sleeping, they were thinking about the One Freeman. The one that could save them all from this tyranny and utter hopelessness. One day, he will arrive, one day The One Freeman will save them all. But one thing was for sure; that this day, wasn't that day.
