man, really the biggest thing that ages this game is the active sound - the footsteps created by NPCs, for example, is so wildly jarring in an otherwise fantastic aural ambience.

It's amazing how, after 25 years, this game still has by far the best overall story. It felt real because of the writing. No matter how "realistic" video games become in terms of graphics, nothing compares to this game, even to this day.

True, I remember playing it for the first time and being fully immersive in it, especially this first moments arriving the train, since I live in europe, the buildings felt really familiar to me. Also the water hazard moments were excellent at the time. With the cinematic mod things do change a lot, there is so much more detail altough, it's a little divisive since there are really some big changes in some maps.

когда у тебя есть бесплатные ассеты деревьев, мостов и домов и ты тыкаешь везде где надо и не надо. Этими кранами, новостройками.гигантскиеми домами и еще раз кранами-убили всю атмосферу и одиночество, которое изначально было заложено в суть игры. Визуальная каша, мусор, бардак, хлам. Как и весь этот мод.

I like the mod, but It's really a different take on the visual, some aspects for me are improved, especially the early moments of the game and overviewing the city 17 from the rooftops it's cool and yes more visual noise, but more detailed, if you look at Half Life Alyx, there is obviosly more detail too everywhere. Altough, there a lot of negative aspects, and I have to agree with you in that aspect. Still, I think the mod is a cool mod as an optional and different way to enjoy Half-Life 2, not as an improvement, but as a different way to enjoy the game.

​@DarkAbilex ah you do hunt for archivements, I tend to try to do everything but that would require a lot of effort for me, I'm old, and have a baby now, and a job ;) I already feel great to so this hard difficulty runs and make it available, especially when guys like you do comment this much. I feel happy that dispite I don't talk there is personality behind this playthroughs, and yes, I do know the story of the headcrabs victims, but for me they are already dead dispite the screams of help from them, I'm just ending their suffering (hopefully)

There were some stuff being reversed with MMOD and Cinematic, a lot of baffling swearing graffitis were removed. There is still some though. RavenHolm does change a bit with the grass density at the end

Depends, it's not the first time I do play this, i did tried for the first time on a phenom 2 x4 and an HD 7850 and I did got 60 fps except in most open areas at 1080p. What is your system specs?

Quite easy, but prepare for a lot of space occupied by the cinematic mode. Do it these way: #1 You need to install Half Life 2, HL2 EP1 and HL2 EP2 for it to work properly #2 Search for Half Life 2 Cinematic Mod 1.2, you will find download links in the moddb webside, there is also updates to 1.24 and 1.25 if you want that fixes a couple of stuff, but honestly not needed. After downloading, just install it. #3 Then just download Half Life 2 MMOD, after unpack there is a ton of folders there, just put them in your steam folder (ex: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\sourcemods\). Do all of these steps with steam closed, after you finish doing everything, just start steam and you will have a lot of new games available, just launch the Half-Life 2: MMOD (CM 2013: HL2) If you have any trouble just let me know.

@@hammondOT Yes, The cinematic mode creates a folder called CM2013 inside the steamapps/common, which can be uninstalled through control panel without damaging the base game. The MMOD you can just delete the folders from sourcemods when you don't want to use any mode. The base game will work normally, because you have different launchers. You can play the base game normally, as well as you can play the game only with the MMOD or with the MMOD + Cinematic MOD (which was what I did use) I think you have even separate save files for each.

Cinematic mod version "8" was my preferred way to play HL2, but the lighting engine in the new versions just does not blend well with the assets and it also destroys the HL2 atmosphere and artstyle, so have stoped using this mod.

We have less and less AAA titles, and genres are saturated. HL2 at it's time was a big wow, physics, graphics, art style and the way story was being told without cutscenes was something really great. Probably I was too young and easily impressed, but today, it's very very very very rare, a game that comes out and impressed me the same way. I'm probably just too old and I've played too much stuff.
