@@ursa_margo HL1 was originally intended to be horror, but they changed their minds partway through development, which is why half the game is inside an underground facility with no power and an alien infestation, and the other half is not. There is no style that HL follows, either game, each chapter has it's own setting that is unique compared to the one before.

You can do that and get the mod that lets you play HL1 in VR. A mod for HL2 is still in the works and is free. Playing the Gmod VR mod showed me that it's not all simple to do.

They believe VR is a good way to push gaming forward so they want to be at the forefront of that. Sooner or later you'll have to catch up with the technology and join VR. At this point it's an inevitability. There are cheaper headsets around if you don't have the cash for an Index. But none of them are as high quality as the Index, hence the price.

@@suckmymiddlefinger4350 everything is based on Price/Quality. Top of the line is expensive, but it doesn't mean the others are no good. You can get a good headset for less than £350. The Rift S is perfectly fine and enough to fully immerse you in VR. You also have the samsung odyssey + which can be found for cheaper these days, and in terms of the visuals, it's better. The HP reverb is slightly more expensive at about £500. Ultimately, if you have a reasonable pc, it doesn't cost much to get into VR. Like anything, to get the best experience it costs more, but you don't always have to have the top of the line product. A Rift S /Odyssey, or slightly higher in price and better, the HP Reverb, are good enough. At the end of the day, just because you can't afford it, doesn't mean it sucks. That sucks for you but if you work hard you might be able to save up and afford one. At the end of the day everything costs a price and you can't please everyone. Valve, like Oculus, want to move us into a new era of technology. The next level in gaming, a massive leap forward to deliver on what we've all desired games to fulfill. It's not worth holding technology back just because some people can't afford it. That's not how it works. When you get the cash, you'll enjoy this technology revolutionary leap, like those of us who are already.

Finally got VR for the first time, valve index, this game was absolutely transformational in terms of how I viewed video games. I wish the headset let me smile easier though, because this game had a lot of funny moments either scripted or dynamic, and I could not smile because the headset was on in such a way that pulling up your cheeks was prevented by the headset. I realized that I need a bigger room, because throwing grenades often had me throw my hand into the fan above my head. I thought the puzzles were very cool. I am very glad that the game was not some sort of tech demo and took me something like 23 hours to complete. The gravity gloves were so amazing to the point where I would think them essential in many games, kind of like how Kleenex is associated with tissue paper, they are that good. I wish they took advantage more of physics, granted they used it quite a bit, I think physics has a bigger place in the VR. This was a $1000 purchase effectively for one game, and I can gladly say I think it was worth it, but there is not enough to play other than less than a handful of other games. I hope valve makes halflife 3, and puts at least 5 to 6 years of work into it and builds off of what they built on Alyx. Even after as many hours as I put into this game, I wish I could stay in the world longer. I was able to play for about two hours at a time before needing to take a break, but I looked forward to playing it every day after work for nearly 2 weeks. I could seriously consider building a house with a VR room, with taller ceilings, and at least 10 ft.² of walking space, designed specifically for VR if this industry could take off. It will be up to valve, just like it is up to Tesla to drag the entire automotive industry to Electric, it will take valve that same level of effort to convert the entire industry to virtual reality, and I hope they have reignited their interest in making narrative games again. I did not care for team fortress, left for dead, Dota, or artifact. Please hire the original half-life rider back, back the gargantuan steam money truck up and give him all the money he wants, and give the half-life arc a proper conclusion.

What everyone needs to understand is that this is the game VR needed. Long have we waited for a fully fledged experience in VR. Although it wasn’t appealing to the fans of half life, I do believe they were trying something new, and that was putting a game as such on VR. The way I see it, this game was a test for Valve, and for VR in general. All in all, the game just came out. Maybe we should give it some time before judging it. Sorry if I’m not making much sense, I just want others too meditate on the game before judging it. It’s good to look at the game from different perspectives.

I sure do hope so Action gameplay and teleporting have just never worked for me personally. It stalls the momentum since you're attention gets devoted to pointing your arm somewhere to quickly get to cover or out of the way instead of just being able to press a lil joystick or touchpad with your thumb to strafe around while keeping you attention on the action.
