I think the game's entire soundtrack represents what Gordon is feeling in given circumstances. Like here in the beginning it's like he's steeling himself, takes a deep breath and then the shorts are fired and the action starts

the ai of half life 1 is really good in combat. but the scientist ai is the worst ai ive ever seen in any valve game. soldier ai, alien ai, scientist speech ai, those are pretty smart. but the node nav mesh for scientists is godawful.
