I have the exact same brakes (and most other components) on my Merida Silex 300. they work fine and are easy and cheap to maintain. it's a gravel not an enduro... if you get this for around 1200-1400 I'd say it's a fair deal

I am thinking about buying this model. What do you think about mechanical brakes? I will use it for commuting, sports and sometimes travelling. I am an average user.
@egazzz997 ай бұрын
@@NikMan987 they do their job. i haven't had any problems with them yet. i mainly use it for going to work and back, but also ride steep mountain roads from time to time. of course, i normally ride an enduro with magura mt5 4 piston brakes, which is a different world, but for gravel the brakes are enough for me. i just start braking a bit earlier :) but so far they always react reliably

The ALR 5 AXS for $2899 has electronic shifting , the new ALR 5 with 3 new colors and SRAM Apex mech shifters is $2499. I guess electronic shifting is the new thing now and is getting cheaper to make so will start seeing on less expensive bikes

Great review as always, I hope that , with all those spacers on a carbon steerer they speced an extra long expander plug to support the clamping area of the stem. It would also be nice to see an upgraded model with a dropper actuated by the left hand shifter. If you’re going to transform road bikes into drop bar trail bikes, might as well go all the way!

Nice looking frame and fork, like that the dealer hasn't already cut the steerer tube and slammed the stem. Having said that would not have this model, it has two big problems for me 1x and sram components, can't stand either one. I would take a 2x micro shift before messing with sram and it would probably even be cheaper.
@StayZero55611 ай бұрын
Microshift really isn’t too bad, I used them on my bike (in a 3x) and they just work. Their new Sword is actually really good looking with all internal routing.

On those mounts UNDER the too tube - they're for a 'bolt on' frame bag not for a top tube bag, also why it has additional mounts on the down tube.

Thank you for noting the frame size during weighing it. Priced close to the Kona Libre which I've been considering. A positive of Trek bikes in WI is the dealerships and ability to see everything and get fit. I like the look of this bike.
