Half Time Show With The Weekend, Thoughts?

Lyrically his music is too hypnotic for a Super Bowl halftime show. That setting is perfect for someone more upbeat like Bruno Mars, with tracks like “Uptown Funk” that seem custom made for it.

When I heard it would be The Weeknd my first thought was, "who would be the surprise performers?" because I did not think he had the notoriety or star power to carry the show on his own. I think this has a lot to do with the average 35+ age viewer giving negative reviews. As a DJ I thought the production quality was an easy 8/10 except for the mic level through the first song & I believe far too many other DJs either expect to see a major stadium tour production, or just want to come off as "experts" by throwing out nothing but negative criticism or shade as those cool kids say. If you did not pay $5,000.00 for a ticket to the game then who gives a diddly poo if the halftime show was as good as Prince or as bad as somewhere between the Up With Life Performers and The Who.

LOL, true Bill! We feel that the great game will always meet the same level for the show. I was involved in the San Diego Superbowl game XXXVII and saw first hand the production and it was amazing how well put together it is. I really think people overlooked that Blinding Lights was such a big song and he has had hits, but i didn't get the ballad in the middle, really wanted big tracks hitting hard...

I was looking forward to the halftime show, it was a letdown. Didn’t care for the production, the background music overtook the singing, I missed having a guest appearance from someone else. The Weekend is best when he is not drowned out.

I agree. I think there is always a lot of hype so the expectation is higher than normal for the performance.
