Great no-nonsense video Keith, in answer to the question of rear automatic wipers I remove the appropriate fuse when I fit the bike rack. I found out the hard way when I burnt out my rear wiper motor - hope this helps Cheers bikers.

Thanks, good video. There's currently a shedload of these carriers (and others) on eBay for a fiver. The fact that there is nowhere to easly attach straps underneath my car was putting me off purchasing one. Your obvious choice of attaching those straps to the lower edge of the boot lid has suddenly made this carrier a viable option. For those wondering if this fits to saloon cars - it looks as though the it will, plus one of the illustrations on the box show the t fitted to a saloon.

@@eddiecz I don't recall my exact search, but I did get mine for a fiver though I had to drive halfway around the M25 to collect it from a hospice in Watford. Take into account the Dartford Crossing fee X2 and then the straps I replaced, I may as well have bought a new one lol.

And I'm fairly sure you can open the boot when it's attached like that. Which is handy. Wouldn't try that with the bike on though.

If there's no direct point to connect to under the bumper I suspect anybody who's been in the scouts could lash up some sort of strap for the clips to hook onto.

I changed my car to a Peugeot 308 (2012) so need to buy the Halfords "Glass Hatch Anchor kit" The current top strap-hooks on the rack were a very tight/?damaging fit. Now I am happier about being able to fit my 3 bike rack which I've been avoiding since I bought the car six years ago! Hurrah, now I can take my bike further afield! One small point, for deaf/hard if hearing, the sub titles are rubbish, bit I've managed to get the gist of it. Thank you so much from this cycling Golden Oldie!

Thanks Keith, but you have it resting on the plastic bumper! With better adjustment of the frame at the start, you'd have it 5cm up and away from the bumper as advides. Nothing then leans on plastic. Aslo the rubber straps holding the crossbar on need to be threaded through a slot before clipping them home.

Very useful video, but you should also check out the Halfords instructions on their website which is the only legal information should you have a problem. Their instructions does vary from this video particularly on the use of the red straps.

Yes the wiper may not be able to move. So on newer cars with auto wipers it will need positioning to allow or remove the nut keeping the wiper on. You can’t see out the window with the bikes attached anyways ha

Good instructional video. However, that is not how you use the red straps. There are two red straps, of which connect to the frame both sides. You thread the red straps through the wheels and frame of the bikes and secure. This is to stop the bikes falling off the carrier. I have one of these racks and Halfords insisted that is how the red straps are fitted.

Yogi G thanks, to be honest mist of the weight seems to go onto the lower support on the bumper. I did wonder this myself, however the manufacturer instructions show this is ok so I trust that they have researched this. I’ve not had any issues in the couple of years I’ve used it. Hope that helps

Hi, I paid about £90 for the carrier. Make sure that you don’t have an auto rear wiper blade as the carrier may obstruct it from working. My vehicle never had one so this was not an issue for me. If you go to the Halfords website you can enter your registration number in and it will tell you the best carrier to use for your vehicle. Thanks and Keep safe...

This is probably a really silly question to some but in the UK, can you use this bike rack with bikes attached and drive on the motorway?

Jawaad as far as I’m aware as long as your number plate and lights are visible and the load is secure then it’s fine. If not you will need to purchase a light board. Halfords can help you with this if needed.

Turnitaround hi, it really depends on how you feel and where you park. It only takes two minutes to fit so personally I would remove it. If you go to a party place like Hamsterley Forest most keep there racks attached. It just depends on your location.
