2023 marks the 60th anniversary of the March on Washington where the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., delivered the historic “I Have A Dream” speech. The Pride of Minnesota joined the Dream Initiative, based in the University of Minnesota College of Liberal Arts, with a show featuring music that was played during the Civil Rights Movement.
We had a special guest on the ladder, Professor Emeritus O'Neill Sanford. He served as the director of the Pride of Minnesota from 1976 to 1985 and was the first African American band director in the Big Ten or at any Predominantly White Institution. Professor Sanford conducted two of his Motown arrangements: "My Cherie Amour" and "For Once In My Life."
