Halfway point! Can Horley close the gap to top spot? Cricket Highlights Horley vs Kingstonian

Horley’s 9th game of the season sees us playing Kingstonian CC away. Kingstonian won the toss and elected to bat. Having been bowled out for about 60-70 for the previous 2 weeks horley felt confident but knew we would still have to work hard. With frequent wickets falling it was going well until 2 Kingstonians batsmen put a good partnership together and reverted the pressure back into Horley. Kingstonian arguably put on 40 runs too many but with Horley’s batting power we were always going to go for the chase even when we get 10 less overs to get said runs! We fought valiantly but with wickets falling occasionally and a very slow outfield not rewarding batsmen for their shots but could they get the total in the required time.

Regardless of the final result you still showed the grit to not lose that game after a few of the top order went. Good to see Luke and Richard contribute. Ben seems unstoppable with that bat at the moment :)

Kingstonian being pushed further and further out. That middle pitch was a beaut and now on that far hand side. That clubhouse use to be a hub. Did the Don's let you lads use it?

He was young, wanted to try a higher level and made a move. He played at a couple of clubs but ultimately in the end didn’t enjoy his cricket so decided to come back as enjoying your day is almost more important than winning!

Accusations of cheating are wrong BUT it was an awful decision. The ump stands so far outside the line of the stumps that he shouldn’t be allowed to give any LBW decisions. I guess line doesn’t matter when you give LBW to a ball that would have gone about a foot over the stumps! 🙈

I can’t recall the comment now but if it was in regards to Aryans lbw then that was a shocker! That umpire seems to be getting a bit of a name around the league.

Absolutely agree. I always commend them because of the fact the game wouldn’t happen without them but on this occasion that was a shocker

Cricket teas seem to have been utterly killed off by Covid. It's amazing how many things disappeared during the pandemic and never came back.

I agree ref. the format, it's utterly stupid. There was never anything wrong with playing somewhere between 40 and 50 overs per side, keep it simple, perhaps with the team batting first being able to declare early and give themselves longer to bowl out the opposition if desired. This format makes no sense. It makes you wonder what goes through the minds of the people who sit around a table in a Surrey boozer somewhere thinking up this crap.

It is very frustrating! 2 games we have fallen short now due to the wildly imbalanced overs available. I don’t really fault our batting in either chase and we would have won both games if we had just a few more overs. The format is gone next year by all accounts and it will be simple win lose cricket. If you don’t score more runs the same amount of time to oppo had then you lose… simple!

i know its a shit format, thats why im happy in the sussex league only the prem and div 2 have draws for 50% of the season, but being honest if they took all their catches they may have bowled you lot out for much less

It really is… next year the Surrey league is being restructured exactly the same as the Sussex one. Done by the same bloke I believe… so we won’t have the timed stuff either apart from prem and division 1. Agreed, the old adage of catches win matches! We let them get 40 runs too many aswell which also doesn’t help
