Capt Zac & Mary: Welcome to my spoon-fishing world! My experience on the east coast using M3 Tackle fluke spoons (and catching some nice sized fluke/flounder on them when the drift speed starts rocking) combined with my AK exploits catching monster flatfish- halibut had me asking myself “Shouldn’t the fluke spoons (enlarged maybe) that work so good in the east also work like a champ in AK?”. Who better to seek a valid water test than my good friend Capt Zac? Am so glad you proved my theories right. I tested it a little last year and had good results too. So looking fwd to mixing it up with you next year. Am sure we can find some more spoon-success then. All that follows after that is some enjoyment with a knife & fork! :) Tight lines for the rest of the season and on into fall as you venture out for big game.

Hi Geoff many thanks for stopping by and for the additional inspiration about halibut spoons! In the right conditions this can be a "go to" rig! Thanks again and tight lines my friend! Captain Zac

Hi Zac, I hope you all are doing OK up in Juneau. We saw video of the flooding on the Mendenhall. Awesome haul BTW.

Thanks for checking in - luckily we weren't impacted by the flooding but many others weren't so lucky 😞. Tight lines my friend! Captain Zac

Please do a catch clean cook with the crabs. As always I enjoyed the video. You may have out fished the Halibut Queen on this outing. Tight lines to the both of you.

Haha every once in a while a blind squirrel finds a nut and I out fish her! Yes good idea I'll add a crab catch and cook to the list. Thanks and tight lines my friend! Captain Zac

Hi Captain Zac and Mary! Was delighted to see you using Pro Cure with an injector on your bait. I used this on our trip to Ketchikan a couple of weeks ago and really believe it helped me catch more fish in 3 days than I caught in 4 last year. Will bring with me again next year!

Hey Michael congrats on your successful outing down in Ketchikan and I'm glad to hear that the scent injection triggered more bites! Tight lines my friend! Captain Zac

Zac, Nice job on the Halibut and Crab take. Looks like that spoon worked out pretty well. Might have to give something similar a try while I am up in Sitka at the end of the month. Coho must really be moving in that way now. Good luck on upcoming trips. Might have to order some of those mid size jigs. I have the little ones and the big ones and both have worked well for me.

Awesome videos and channel. My dad and I are just starting our channel down in Wrangell. If you have any ideas on how to make it better let me know. I’d love to collaborate. Maybe do a southeast fish off. Maybe in May, or for winter kings.

Hi @finfishingchannel thanks for watching and I'm glad you are enjoying my fishing videos! Congrats on starting your own channel! Great to see more SE Alaskan fishing action! Looks like you guys are dialed in down there in Wrangell. Sometimes I take my boat down from Juneau to Petersburg which isn't far from your stomping grounds. A few tips I've found helpful are to focus on steady and consistent content (vs. one or a few "big hits") and also to prioritize the most action-packed or interesting parts when editing the raw footage down into a video. Happy New Year and here's to many tight lines in 2024! Captain Zac

Hey Zac I have a ? for you: where did you mount your HewesCraft ruler sticker on your boat? I can’t decide where to put mine!! 😂
@CaptainZac Жыл бұрын
Hi there thanks for stopping by! I actually didn't end up mounting that sticker because I feared that it would get torn up over the years and then leave a mark if I went to remove it. I use a separate tape measure now but I do see the value in having a quick measurement capability mounted right to the boat for ease of measuring in the heat of the moment when you land a nice salmon! You might consider mounting it on the inside of the gunnel (ease of access plus less wear/tear). Thanks and tight lines! Captain Zac

Awesome video like always. Do you know what brand of crab pots you have? We have some similar to those that we use for shrimp. They almost like a two-story shrimp trap. I want to order some new crab pots. Ours are starting to get old and worn out. Thanks. Tight lines Capt Zac!
@CaptainZac11 ай бұрын
Hi @gavinheiter7704 thanks for stopping by and apologies for the delayed response! Unfortunately, there isn't a brand name visible on my crab pots. I purchased them locally here in Juneau from Western Auto & Marine - perhaps if you reach out to them they could figure out the brand name / supplier based on the description (rubber coated, 4 door dungeness crab pot, top-loading bait container). Happy New Year and here's to many tight lines and full pots in 2024! Captain Zac

Captain Zac - why do you call the smaller halibuts "chicken"?
@fishduckdog Жыл бұрын
Cause the small ones have about the same amount of meat as a chicken 🐔. My guess.
@CaptainZac Жыл бұрын
Hey Tony great question! Honestly, that's what I've been calling them for decades. @fishduckdog may be onto something in terms of similar amount of meat as a chicken. Also, the small ones have a nice firm meat (similar to chicken). Tight lines my friend! Captain Zac
