I'm 77. Thanks for letting me join your conversation. When I was 17 I listened to classical music for the first time, as a university freshman who stumbled into the music room of the university library one day. A nice librarian explained the setup to me. There was a row of turntables to play 33 LP albums, with large headphones attached -- the leathery type that made us listeners look like WWII dive bombers. The sound quality was heavenly. The librarian introduced me to Bach, Beethoven, Handel, Mozart, Chopin, Debussy, dozens of other composers. And to virtuoso performers, now long gone, but their music lives on in their rich legacies of stunning talent embraced by unique and mesmerizing interpretation. That gift to me at age 17, my introduction to classical music, has stayed with me all these years, and for that I am eternally grateful.

Turning 17 really soon! You’re not alone! I use this music every time I study especially for APUSH which I’m doing right now. There’s a certain air to this type of music that puts my mind in a hyper-focused state that makes studying quite enjoyable! I don’t know what I’d do without it!

OK -- this is probably the weirdest comment you'll ever get. I live in an open cabin off the grid in Bocas del Toro Province, Panamá. I don't typically play music, but started playing this album today and a 3-inch hummingbird has been so fascinated, he/she has been perched on a branch outside of our screened-in home for hours. Amazing he/she sits still for so long. Every so often he/she flies away, but then comes right back. There seems to be some head bobbing and wing spreading every so often. Clearly, you have made an impression. Gracias from Central America!

I’m in the room with my grandma dying...I’m playing this because when I was younger, I would always spend the night at her house and wake up and we would go walk somewhere, everytime when I got in her car she would have classical music playing, so Right now she’s dying and I hope she can hear me playing this trying to comfort her... I love you nana.

I'm so sorry.. :( it is really tough, but at the same time it's special to spend the last moments with her. She can definitely listen the music and I'm sure she is so grateful that you are there with her. You are a great grandson! She is going to leave this world in peace and you helped her with that. Be in peace with yourself as well! The grief of loss is the price we pay for the gift of love (Colin Murray Parkes). Big hug from Barcelona! (Sorry if I made mistakes, English is not my language).

I was born in 1865, and I was in my early 20s when I met Claude in Paris. We were both at the Conservatoire. I was studying there, and Claude was visiting the school, where he had graduated, for a couple of months. At that time, he was already gaining attention for his unique style. One afternoon, I heard him playing a piece in a practice room. It was unlike anything I had heard before-calm and flowing, yet with an unusual structure. When I asked him about it, he explained that it was part of a project he was working on, later known as Arabesque No. 1. He mentioned wanting to break away from traditional forms and create something more natural, something that followed its own path. Years later, I heard the Arabesque performed in a music hall. It was exactly as I remembered from those days at the Conservatoire. Now I listen to the music via on KZbin, it brought back the image of Debussy at the piano, creating music that felt entirely his own. So, thank you. I truly appreciate it.

I am on my first day of college right now. I will come back here in four years with perfect scores and a new life. Wish me luck! Edit: It's going good! I have finished a couple of courses already but I know that I can work harder. I got good grades for my math course so Im happy about that. I'll update you guys in a few more months. THANK YOU for sooo many positive comments. You guys motivated me to work harder 😊 Edit 2: Hi everyone....it's been a while sorry 🤭. I am currently on my last semester of my fourth year and i feel like this term will be so hard. I have one of the hardest if not the hardest course to do and i am struggling lol (the final report is around 300 pages long 💀) but i'll get through it like i did all the other times. These four years of uni have gone by so fast yet so slow and they taught me alot...though i can't remember most of my courses after finishing the final exam...the theories just fly out of my head haha. Anyways thank you all for supporting and believing in me and my next step is either doing my masters or finding a job....still debating. We will see where the future takes me🧡💛

@@siennalee4725 I think they’re prob just not used to listening to music without lyrics, and it’s pretty simple, mainstream and pleasant to the ears. I personally don’t really pay attention to the lyrics and I started to get invested to other genres once I listened to them more so genres like classical, jazz, boss’s nova might be unusual. I want more people to explore other genres tho.

Growing up during the 60s and 70s I was always a follower of Rock music, but lo and behold, in my uncle's home where I lived ten years, every saturday and Sunday he woke us up with his Grand piano playing many of these compositions. He was an opera singer as well, so that influence finally reflected me in me little by little, particularly on Saturdays, when it didnt feel right without Bach, Mozart or Wagner, I often went to bookstores around greenwich village new york on Saturdays or Sunday, and stay there for hours, reading art history, the occult or classic bohemian writings, while listening to the clasical pieces played in the store. It was always so peacheful and different from the world out there, and it meant home to me.. and now as I turned 69 here I am writing and listening to the subterranean classical influence in my destiny...

I’ve currently been losing myself all over again so today I have decided to sit down, listen to some classical music, and read a couple books. It has been so long since I’ve done this and it feels nice. But yet, all I can think about is the sad parts rolling around my mind that is blocking out the light to the good thoughts. I’m going to keep trying to progress, and for everyone reading this, I hope you do too. Smile, cry, smile and cry at the same time, yell! Do whatever you have to, just don’t give up love, you’ve already made it so far. I know it gets to be quite exhausting, but you can do this. I’m proud of you! Now go back to what you were doing, reading, studying, just thinking. But do it knowing someone cares and can’t wait to see how much you grow. Have a good day/evening/night darling.❤️

Yup never ever give up I’m sure you will surpass and overcome whatever life throws at you because you seem like your a warrior at heart I can relate a lot about what you said about losing yourself but I think you can never truly lose yourself you just might forget sometimes and you have to listen to some classical music we can all get overwhelmed sometimes I’ve been at times where I wanted to give up but I’m so happy that I didn’t because if you never give up and you really want to you can get past whatever you want in life so never up and it will get better you just gotta be patient with yourself tell yourself positive things and you will feel more positive it just takes time a lot of how we feel is how we talk to ourselves and luckily we choose how we talk to ourselves so it’s always possible to change it just takes time

I hope you found some peace in your heart, and some clarity in your mind to be able to read and enjoy your literature. I think it's really cute how even while your mind was racing with some sad thoughts, you still went out of your way to write something encouraging and loving for all the people listening. Veronica you may also reflect that classical music is not so much an 'escape' from reality but rather a 'return to' and re-grounding in reality. What you escape from is the transient and peripheral stress arising from living in dysfunctional times.

This music is FAR MORE famous than pop music. Most of this music is 100~300 YEARS OLD. Do you think any currently played pop music is going to be here in 100 years? Typical answer is Dylan, Elvis, Beatles! MAYBE... but, what radio station plays them REGULARLY? There are thousands of dedicated radio stations playing This music ONLY. Every good movie hires modern composers like Zimmer, Williams, Morricone, Einaudi... Un-popular? Pop music has existed for THOUSANDS of years... and it's all FORGOTTEN (except a few folk tunes) THIS music was played for the rich, by orchestras and pop played for the poor, in pubs. It's a matter of CLASS. Higher classes will always be a smaller group.

I love classical music. I have learning disabilities that make it hard for me to follow lyrics, so classical music is perfect. I love how the music speaks for itself, instead of someone explaining the story through words. The music is like waves of feelings, so you don't even have to try interpreting it, you can just feel all the emotions and movements people put into the song. Feeling the music is so much more than just hearing it.

I used to turn pages for my mother sometimes when she played. I wish she had made me practice, but she couldn't bring herself to because her mother made her practice and she hated it. She was well loved for her beautiful playing and her kindness and inner beauty. I'm sure Chopin contributed to that. I'm now 81 years old My mother, Laura Margaret Gundry Morris, passed on about 20 years ago.
