How to Reach :
Halisahar Ramprasad Vita is well connected with Halisahar railway station. Take main line train like Sealdah-Kalyani Simanta Local/Sealdah-Ranaghat Local/Sealdah-Shantipur Local/Sealdah-Krishnanagar Local/Sealdah-Gede Local etc. to come Halisahar station. Pick a toto or auto from the side of No.1 platform to reach Halisahar Ramprasad Vita. It will cost Rs. 20/- to 25/-.
Who is coming from Howrah line, pick Howrah-Bandel Local/Howrah-Bardhaman Local/Howrah-Katoa Local etc. and come to Chuchura station. Then take a auto or toto to Chinsurah Ferry Ghat, take a launch ( cost Rs 7/- ) to cross Hooghly river and from Naihati Ferry Ghat walk for 3 minutes to reach Naihati railway station. Take main line train like Sealdah-Kalyani Simanta Local/Sealdah-Ranaghat Local/Sealdah-Shantipur Local/Sealdah-Krishnanagar Local/Sealdah-Gede Local etc. to come Halisahar station or take No. 85 bus and asked them to drop Ramprasad Vita. You can pick a toto or auto from the side of No. 1 platform ( halisahar ) to reach Ramprasad Vita, Halisahar. It will cost Rs. 20/- to 25/-. One can also come here from Bandel station by taking trains towards Naihati station and rest is described above.
Sadhak Ramprasad Sen :
Ramprasad Sen was born at his maternal house in Garalgaccha of Hooghly District in a vaidya family around 1718 or 1723. His father name was Ramram Sen, an ayurvedic doctor and sanskrit scholar. Ramprasad's mother Siddheswari was Ramram's second wife. Ramprasad married a girl named Sarvani when he was twenty-two years old. Ramprasad devoted most of his time to sadhana. When Ramram died Ramprasad moved to Kolkata and worked as an accountant in the household of Durga Charan Mitra for of 30 rupees monthly. While working, Ramprasad wrote devotional songs to Maa Kali in his account book. Durga Charan Mitra, after reading Ramprasad's work requested him to return to his village and compose songs to Maa Kali, in the mean time he continuing to pay his salary. Raja Krishnachandra of Nadia appointed Ramprasad as his court poet and gave Ramprasad 100 acres of tax free land. In return, Ramprasad dedicated his book "Vidyasundar" ( Beautiful Knowledge ) to the Maharaja. Krishna Chandra also gave Ramprasad the title "Kaviranjana" ( Entertainer of Poets ). According to Sister Nivedita's book "Kali the Mother", Nawab Sirajuddaula who was traveling in a barge and came across Ramprasad who was singing on a shore. He was impressed by his music. On one Kali puja night, Ramprasad performed the puja and sang Maa Kali songs throughout the night. In the morning, Ramprasad went into the holy river, until the water was neck deep and all the while singing for Maa Kali. As Maa Kali's image was immersed, Ramprasad died. This was believed to be around 1775.
