Hallett Peak Hike | Rocky Mountain National Park

Hiking up Flattop Mountain 12,324 ft (3,756m) and Hallett Peak 12,713 ft (3,875m) in RMNP on April 16, 2023. If you are looking for incredible views, then you should give this hike a try. It would even be worth it to just go to the Emerald Lake viewpoint.
Directions to Trailhead:
Park at the Bear Lake Trailhead
Distance to Hallett Peak Summit: 10 miles (16km) round trip from the Bear Lake Parking Lot
Hallett Peak Elevation: 12,713 feet (3,875m)
Elevation Gain: 3,238 feet (987m)
Difficulty: Strenuous
Conditions:
Clear Sky and high winds
Temperature: 35F (2C) at the the start of the hike, much colder above the treeline.

Thanks, it was a fun one, and a good way to end my winter hikes for the season. I wasn’t expecting those conditions, it was nice at the trailhead. I’d highly recommend it as a summer hike, the views are incredible.

Really enjoyed this video! I was cheering for you to make that summit. I attempted this in Summer of 2020 and only made it to Dream Lake overlook. I wasn't physically prepared. This Summer, I am going back after it!

Thanks! It’s still a great hike going to that overlook, the view there is amazing. If you get to the top of Flattop and the weather is good, it’s worth going all the way to the Hallett summit. Good luck on your hike this summer!

Thanks Ruggedland! How was Taylor Peak? I have not been up that one. The views on this one were better than what I remembered from Flattop years ago. I guess making a video slows the bike down enough to take in the view a bit more.

The views from Taylor are even better than Hallett. You can see Sky Pond down below and all the other peaks around Longs. I went up there via Andrews Tarn/Glacier last July. Even tried glissading down the glacier on the way back. It was an awesome day

I tried Hallett last month and did end up turning back just after the Emerald Lake viewpoint because there was so much wind and blowing snow.

That would be lots of fun, I love showing people around the mountains.
