In this Special Horror's Hallowed Grounds mini-episode, I take a look at how several years ago I was the first person to discover that before the Nancy Thompson's famous house from A Nightmare on Elm Street was haunted by Freddy Krueger, it was first stalked by Michael Myers after it's previous resident, one Laurie Strode. This discovery was made because of a simple rocking horse.

Wait. How have I watched Halloween a hundred times since 1978, and have never seen the scenes that you just showed in this video clip? I'm confused by the comments. So is this a scene from a tv edit or an unused flashback in Halloween 2? Help me Obi Wan...
@brandonhendrix7223
@brandonhendrix7223 3 жыл бұрын
It is for the tv edit of Halloween. When NBC was prepping Halloween for it's 1981 TV premier, they realized, after cutting out all the sex and violence, the film ran short. So they commisioned Carpenter to shoot extra scenes to fill up the time. These scenes were filmed during or around the time of the filming of Halloween 2. The 3 extra scenes are: 1) a scene taking place in 1964 in which Loomis is trying to convince a board to keep Michael locked up (this scene is actually lifted from the Halloween novelization). Loomis then visits Michael in his room. 2) a post-escape scene in which a nurse shows Loomis Michael's trashed room with the word "Sister" scrawled on the door. 3) the scene Sean shows here, in which Linda comes over to Laurie's house to borrow a blouse.

@@NotMorganFreeman. No problem. Pretty sure they're on one of the dvd releases as a bonus. A version of Halloween with the tv scenes inserted was released as the 'extended cut' on DVD back in the early 2000s. Should be easy to find used.

Weren't the tv scenes shot during the Halloween II production? Was it Carpenter who shot these scenes?
@malfuncsean
@malfuncsean 3 жыл бұрын
Carpenter did film all of the TV scenes. I just checked with Will Sandin and they did shoot the TV scenes in 1981. Will said he doesn't know why they didn't use him in Halloween II and used Adam Gunn instead as Young Michael Myers. He said he was bummed when he saw Halloween II and found that out.

@@malfuncsean i often wonder why that was. I mean, he was already there, right? Maybe because it was a bigger budget studio film there were union/studio rules or wanted to use "their people". Likely the same reason Charles Cyphers makes an early exit, maybe.

I saw a video on this subject before. From what I remember when they were about to release the tv version it was too short. So John Carpenter reassembled some of the cast to do some extra shots. This is when they used the Nightmare on Elm St house. But they did not use it in the original version of Halloween.

This is so great Sean. That’s so cool you got to see the inside of the house when it was on the market back in 2006. That alien 👽 / naked gun pic was seriously creepy. Went to this location back in 2019 while in LA for Halloween Horror Nights. So crazy that the television footage, with Laurie, Linda and Anne, for Halloween was shot In the same location. Good detective work on finding the item that linked the house to both iconic franchises. You rock

@malfuncsean
@malfuncsean 2 жыл бұрын
I would say most likely because neither the Halloween nor Elm Street film makers had any clue. When they added this footage for the Halloween TV version it was just a quick shoot likely less than one day. The location meant nothing to them. Several years later when Elm Street was shot there they didn’t have anything to go off of except the TV version of Halloween if they happened to have even seen it to recognize the living room and the Elm Street crew didn’t even shoot in that living room. So unless Carpenter, Curtis or crew had seen A Nightmare on Elm Street and happened to recognize the front of the house from that one day they were there I doubt anyone would have made the connection. I stumbled upon it all because of that wooden rocking horse.

I knew about the filming inside the Elm Street house living room (I discovered that for myself when I bought the TV version) but I didn’t know that Nancy’s room was Annie’s room. That is so cool! If my memory is correct, I heard Robert Englund say, at a Q&A convention, that he actually worked on Halloween for a day or two, helping gather the leaves after a scene was shot. That blew my mind.

It wasn’t exactly 5-6 years before it was really more like 3-4 years because the TV cut’s extra scenes weren’t filmed until the release of Halloween 2 so the scenes were mostly filmed to fit the Laurie is Michael’s sister plot line and I believe these scenes were filmed just to add extra run time

yes I saw that a few years back the door gave it away in Laurie's house cuz in the original she goes to front door bit it's a covered porch and when she opens the door its bright as daylight. also. I notice in nightmare on elm 2. jesse's room is Nancy's room and u can see the door is right next to the windows I'm like unless they renovated also the kitchen is way different from the 1st but now seeing ur video I see they used that room instead of the soundstage for Nancy's room also I dont understand y they always changed to floor plan in the other movies 3 4 5 6 all different
