When a Halloween prop and animatronic company makes Christmas animatronics challenges arise and are overcome. Come behind the scenes of Distortions Unlimited for this Christmas special. Filmed during 2010 and 2011 watch us as we design, sculpt, mold, paint, and present our Christmas props and animatronics. I love your horror stuff , but these Christmas things are sculpted well but are too grotesque. You need to make them like the illustrations and sculptures of Santa and elves from the turn of the century to about 1930. Or like those antique German garden gnomes. There was a whimsical quality about those depictions that you never see today.

Thanks so much @duncancreeper6195! Yes, this was actually filmed around the time when Making Monsters was just about to start filming for the first episodes that would be released in 2011. The reality show was already in development and in the planning stage.

The reality show covered us at the next Transworld Halloween show that took place in March after the Houston Expo. At that Transworld we had Goreliath, the Shocktronic etc.

@@DistortionsUnlimited I suppose the WarmSprings crew felt the Transworld show was the proper introduction to Distortions for the pilot episode rather than the Christmas line you did for the Party Expo earlier that year. I’m glad this 2011 footage is finally uploaded on KZbin, it’s a real Christmas treat!

Santa and Mrs Claus are terrific. The the awake elves could look friendlier if their features were softened a little. Not such hard deep lines, not every tooth showing. in fact no bottom teeth showing at all. If the eyes were more doll like and less yellowed they would seem more approachable. The sculpting was terrific and I gasped when the table flipped. You took it and altered Santa to be a little less fat and it was the right move. He looks down right jolly and Mrs looks nice next to him. You totally see them as a couple.

Those recording sessions were fun! We recorded English tracks and then had Mondo record Spanish tracks as well. At the trade show we played both versions. Then of course the Elf recording sessions were tons of fun. Ed often times records audio for our props but depending on the character we bring in people as well.
