We visited the Rebecca Nurse Homestead four years ago and received a most informative and private tour by the docent (we were the only ones visiting at the time). We also walked across the field to the family cemetery. Rebecca was my 9th great-aunt and her sister, Mary Towne Estey, hanged in September of 1692, was my 9th great-grandmother. This was my first and only visit to this historic place and I will always be grateful that I had this opportunity to walk in the place of my ancestors.

I've commented on this before and, just so you know, I have this video downloaded to my work computer and listen to it all the time during the day. Love Halloween, and this video captures so much of the feeling(s) of that time of the year. Your Gallows Hill video is equally creepy and awesome. Always wanted to visit Salem and, moreover, the historical locations and aspects of Salem and Tarrytown, NY too. Your videos got me hooked on the subject along with a growing familiarity with Sam Perley's work regarding Proctor's Ledge. You should do another Proctor's Ledge video now that the city has acknowledged the site. It'd be cool to see your spin on Tarrytown also! I'm an engineer by trade and your videos have gotten me through long days at work and have for a long time (I should've just become a historian). They're fantastically produced. Also, the New England pronunciation of "rural" and "farm" never get old.

I just have to comment. I specifically looked for these videos because I'm related to the Putnam family. My great great grandmother was Lucinda Matilda Putnam and through ancestry and other sources I was able to get back to the times of the trials and to when the Putnams lived in Putnamshire or w/e it was called in England. All my ancestors eventually migrated to Michigan and that's where I am now. I'm envious though because I have nothing from any of my ancestors not even a journal.

Fantastic video. We visited Salem on Halloween 2013. We did Salem on halloween and Danvers and Marblehead Nov 1st It was great to go to Danvers, get off the beaten tourist track and see some REAL historic sites. Although the Nurse Homestead wasnt really open we still walked the property to the family cemetery. Dues to unstable windy weather the Parris Parsonage and the second Gallows Hill site ( behind the Walgreens) were actually very creepy. The wind was howling with branches falling around me. Again great job on the video. If it wasnt for this i may not have known about these obscure sites that arent listed on any tourist guides

@Amarain The pathway to the parsonage is open to the public even though you would never know it passing by. It's a nice little hidden gem, that really has no signs directing you to it, so it's a place you would of have to heard of to find. Sight seeing in the off season is also probably a good idea. I appreciate you watching my video!

What is not being presented here is the different classes of residents in the area and the conflicts within the local church parishioners and the pastor. Which were direct catalyst for what happened. The jealousy arising from the 'haves' and 'have nots' contributed to this as well as the boredom of teenage girls, needy for attention. These are well documented in a book Salem Possessed by Boyer & Nissenbaum. They did an in depth study of the demographics of the whole area. A real eye opener.

In fact, more people from the village of Andover were accused and arrested for witchcraft than from any other town in New England.

update.... they--the witches -- were not hanged on gallows hill.. it was realized that they were hanged on a part of proctors ridge. a lower part of the hill there is a new very nice memorial ... it is a must see . I took my daughter and her mother there and to the Saturday afternoon before Halloween-- they are super great grand daughters of Susana martin a convicted witch who was hanged..it was the best Halloween party I have ever been to.....
