It is refreshing to hear someone say positive things about movies. Nowadays content creators hate to get clicks, and some never even see the movie. Halloween Ends was a fun entry in the series with a very satisfying ending. I loved the Cory storyline and it filled the kill count while Michael grew stronger. People have to understand what Myers went through, he is not going to be at the top of his game. He has been run over, shot, stabbed, fingers shot off, and beaten; he will be weaker. Critics saying Cory was ridiculous to let teens bully him obviously have not seen Funny Games or Eden Lake. I have seen this 3 times in two days and have replayed the final fight with Laurie numerous times. I loved this movie.

2018 tried so hard to be a classic Halloween film that every time it deviated from that with wacky dialogue or random schtick it felt strange and off-putting. Kills was simply unpleasant. There's a few key things people are misunderstanding about this entire trilogy and its setup. (alot due to people's assumptions rather than their knowledge of the process) The filmmakers more than explained their aim for all 3 films and some fans still got it wrong... the foreshadowing of Sartain in 2018, Michael NOT being supernatural at the end of Kills, the "monster creating other monsters" theme woven throughout 2018, Kills and Ends are somehow overlooked by those with the strongest complaints about the story. It should be no shock how Corey behaved in Ends, when we already saw Laurie had becomes a shape in 2018, behaving like Michael the entire movie. Corey knows what Laurie saw in Michael's eyes (itself a story element from the original reflected through Loomis) Even Hawkins says in Kills, he saw the same look in Loomis eyes that night in 78. Also, Corey is a foil to Michael, the external version of Michael's internal. Michael's evil is self created and sustained and he uses fear to get an edge on his victims. he's still unknowable, unexplainable. only HE can givre that answer, and he aint talking lol Corey on the other hand, IS the product of Haddonfield's influence. Thats what Laurie figured out and is explaining to Corey in Jeremy's house. Although the tones are extremely different, the narrative is basically consistent throughout. Michael's screentime in ends, is almost the same as the original movie too, i dont think people realize that though. In 78, he kills Judith in the opening, a mechanic offscreen shortly after. Then all we get is glimpses for a few seconds here and there, yet the rest of the movie is the exploration of all the other characters. we get the final 3 kills all at the end of the movie in short succession. Ends is the 2022 equivalent of a slow burn (ironicially some fans have been clamoring for) and with Michael barely escaping the massacre of 2018, and dying from his wounds (supernatural abilities aside) he's still human, it also shouldnt have been a suprised he wasnt out on Halloween trying to start a new massacre. (still took alot for Laurie to put him down, especially compared to all their other encounters in the franchise)

Myers should never look “weak.” This movie and the Kills flashback with his arrest really demystified Myers. For this reason, I can’t get behind this movie. Plus, Laurie needed to die with Michael if they were committed to killing off Myers. I’m sure JLC had something to say about that. This movie defeated the entire essence of the ‘78 film. @daleridgway2 жыл бұрын
Michael Myers is the personification of evil. He is the boogeyman. And not only is the embodiment of it, he is the face of it. The theme of this trilogy is to understand the nature of evil is to stare directly into and not go completely mad. Dr loomis was a direct line to Michael for years and was in contact with the evil within Michaels eyes and was driven to desperation to stop him. Laurie survived it and came face to face with it and barely survived physically and mentally. Sartain studied it too close and became consumed by it. Michael himself stared into the mirror to look within because he himself was consumed by his own evil. Corey was a vulnerable victimless of circumstances and when faced with the eyes of evil, also became consumed. What DGG does well is that he doesn’t outright say there’s a power to Michael’s mask but it’s clear there is. The mask is a force of nature itself, just like Michael. It’s the scariest feature of the original. Because it truly is empty. It’s devoid of emotion. Almost like a literal mask of what dr loomis describes as an emotionless face, with the blackest eyes. This trilogy isn’t about Michael Myers the man, it’s about the unknowable evil of no reason or origin and it’s gravitational pull to us as humans and what it does to us as a force of nature. And how easily we can become it.

I don't mind the whole Corey thing, however my biggest problem with this movie is how they handled Myers. Myers was too humanized, too vulnerable, too weak, Corey literally walked up to Myers and pulled the mask off him than wrestled him to the ground as if Myers was an old man (even thought he is old) Myers is the Boogeyman, he is a man with a supernatural side to him, you can't do all these blasphemous things to Myers, it completely ruins his character. I'm also completely against finishing off Myers (in such a FINAL way) the original message of the 78 film was that Myers really was the boogeyman, he is everywhere at once, Tommy even says "you can't kill the boogeyman" that's confirmed at the end of the movie. The way you "kill off" Myers is supposed to be a bit ambiguous, you can have him be shot or stabbed or whatever but not chop off his head or shred him to pieces. The why I would have ended it would be to kill him off but nothing too final than at the end of the movie some time later (maybe the following Halloween) Allison or Laurie look out the window and Myers is there just like in the original than Allison or Laurie blink or close their eyes for a split second in disbelief and Myers is gone (that can be really him or their imagination) it's ambiguous and right before the credits roll you either hear little Tommy say "you can't kill the Boogeyman" or you hear Dr. Loomis say "you've fooled them haven't you Michael, but not me). And that's it, perfect ending that fits with Carpenters original intent for Myers.

I will readily admit that Ends was not perfect by any means, and I do agree with some of the criticism such as Michael being sidelined a by Corey for most of the movie, Michael himself being a bit weaker, etc. One personal issue I had was that they didn't use the classic theme enough. That aside, I'm very glad we got a conclusion to the cliffhanger that Kills left us with along with Laurie finally getting her much-deserved happy ending. My rating of the movie as a whole is 7.5 / 10. Also, you don't have to love the movie if it didn't live up to what you were hoping for, but you don't have to hate it just because it's different. Besides, if Ends had the same formula as 2018 and Kills, the same people hating on it for being different would probably hate on it for milking the same formula or find another dumb reason to hate it. Blumhouse worked really hard on this movie and the other two, and they deserve a break. Halloween is Halloween.

I think you hit your review spot on. I thought they really needed more Michael, but it still worked for me. I think had they introduced Corey in an earlier movie or made him a minor character for this one and amped up the amount of Michael then set up for another movie, it may have worked better for others. I also think it’s ridiculous how many people are complaining that Michael is supposed to be supernatural. In the first two he’s shown to be more durable and stronger than a normal person, but the supernatural aspects weren’t introduced until Return of Michael Myers. Since this one only counts the original and the two recent sequels and they set up that he is just a human, it makes sense that him being as old as he is, taking all the damage from 2018 without being treated like he must have been in the original film since he was captured, and living in the sewers for 4 years probably eating rats and dogs, that he would be weakened. Even with all that, I think the finale with Lori was excellent. The shear damage done to Michael’s hand definitely sealed that this was his last fight. I’m torn between if I think Lori should have died with him or not, but I think it works either way, just in very different ways.

I’d say my biggest let down is where was Hawkins he felt like such a big character in the first two and I loved Corey which I know is a hot take but I really dug him and felt for him but my biggest gripe is that I wish he was sprinkled throughout the first 2 either name dropped in 2018 and actually had an interaction with Michael in kills which would tie directly into ends intro but I liked it the other biggest thing I hated the absolute most was the final fight I wish it had a chase or something and the way they finished him with the crowd was kind of lame

This movie was terrible and the cory character was totally unnecessary and was a waste of time. Michael survives the beatdown from 25-30 people and kills all of them and has to hide in the sewer to recover??? The writing for the major characters was weak at best and Allyson was a prime example who was lead around like a dog on a leash by cory. Complete waste of time and I hope we never see Halloween come back at all.... I love horror movies but Blumhouse squandered the potential for this trilogy and now they are going to do the same thing to The Exorcist.

I think the next reboot of the franchise should do 1 of 2 things: either give JAMIE LLOYD the justice she deserves and give her a RETCON (basically ignore H5/6) and pick up after H4 and give her and Rachel more time together, no kids on either part, just a sister story or something with UNCLE MICHAEL returning and giving Danielle a proper goodbye, too (who floated the franchise in the 80's) or just go back to OG film, have him supernatural again, and he kills everyone that first night he returned, including Laurie; because we've gotten a dead laurie timeline (H20) and a dead michael timeline (Blumhouse films), so we should get a new one where HE IS THE BOOGEYMAN basically, and they pick up this new one in the 80's, so there's that technology set back for the survivors and the viewers who have become so reliant on tech to survive in today's world, or just change the year the OG film happened to make Michael like 25 today, or something. BUT your review was spot on for ENDS and I agree with a lot of it. I enjoyed the film and seeing a version of him FINALLY DYING was surreal in my mind, but still i liked this one a lot. I'll still be here for your inevitable reviews of the new FRIDAY THE 13TH movies we'll hopefully get sooner than later. lol

Did you know that at the end of "Halloween Ends", when they show the inside of Laurie's house one last time, right around the moment they showed the mask on the table, right before the music started playing for the credits, you can hear a faint breathing sound in the background, like the way Michael would do but it sounds younger. Could Corey have survived and become "The Shape"? Did Michael successfully pass on his work to Corey to keep evil alive?

I really want to like this film but I don't. I finally feel what other fans felt with H18 and kills when people didn't like those films. I love 78 obviously and wish it was the only one. But I appreciate H18 and Kills because it's connected to 78 and keeps John's original vision in tact. So it baffles me why they decided to do what they did, kinda. I know they wanted to do something different but to me H ends contradicts not only 78 but H18 and Kills. Both in film and lore but also Michael Myers. Everything those films established is contradicted in this new film. I get what they were trying to do but it just doesn't land to me. I really wish it did. I feel like they gave me what i wanted with H18 and kills, just to get to the finale and go, "ready for us to start experimenting with new wacky ideas"???? What I took from this was that Michael was born evil Corey was made evil by a town that hated him for a mistake he made, like his mum said in the film that if it wasn’t for Michaels horrible legacy left on the town they might have forgiven him but since Michael was gone they needed a new boogeyman. I felt bad for Corey at first he was obviously not a well person after what happened Halloween night 2019 and wasn’t getting the proper help he needed so he snapped and became the monster people have been calling him for years.

Just saw this on the release date (October 14th) very good. I wish Michale was in it more, but got what worth, I enjoyed the direction it went. I fel bad for the character Corey, being vilified over a tragic accident to the point he just ended up being 'consumed' by the evil in Michale (?) That he just internally snapped. The fact that the plot is similar to the movie Christine is an interesting idea. How the personification of evil can twist the mind of an already damaged individual, wrongly demonized over a tragic accident. The kills were awesome too. Loved the junk/scrap yard scene

I also wished Laurie would have thrown the mask in the grinder following Michael's body, like a symbolic cherry on top. He was going to eat Corey but he saw evil in his eyes and thought that he can use Corey to do the killing for him to give him energy. Jimmy let me say this first…Dude you get it! Never commented here before on in YT at all but had to mention my take to a fellow who understands. First, this is a modern day Frankenstein! We have literary call backs to ‘78. The community created its monster and then tried to destroy it. We have sympathy as well as victim blaming. We have racial and political anger subtext. More juxtaposition where the babysitter kills the young boy rather than being dispatched herself. Alliterative villain names…MM surviving in public and unseen…like the homeless in this country. So many times we can see what the writers wanted to convey through a slasher. This is elevated Halloween. This is Nietzsche meets Mary Shelley. Man created this monster and there are those of us that want the monster to punish us. This was the end of the monster…not in ice but with metal. Thank you for shepherding us to this point! Great work paisano.

Ok Jimmy. I watched Halloween Ends Last night and I will plan on seeing it again but. I absolutely LOVED this movie. It's definitely one that sticks with you. And I absolutely love how different and Unique it was compared to the other Halloween films. I loved the storylines, the kills, THE SCORE, etc. It just feels something original and something we never seen in the past films. I love the H3 Homages. I hate this trilogy end but I just think it's the perfect closure we need. Love the fan film btw!!

I'm with you Jimmy. I absolutely LOVE this film. Immediately my favourite after the original. Apart from some great moments, I intensely dislike Kills (Lol), but Ends has redeemed this timeline for me. I was so relieved. There was a moment about a third into the film where I'm like, "Where's Michael?", but I was immediately sucked back into the world created in this film and just let all that go. I would have had an issue with it if I thought the film was bad, but I think it's the best written, shot, directed and acted of all David Gordon Green's entries. You mentioned I think in your last video that the characters felt like real people in this one, as opposed to props like they did in Kills - I also agree with that. Much better writing. But yes, if you're looking for a Michael Myers film, chances are you're going to have a hard time with this one. I'm going to see Ends again tomorrow. Love it

If Corey was known from 18 or Kills it’d be better and also if Myers actually got stronger from killing and Corey bring him victims or something. As a Jason fan i loved this film, Allison can break that arm that easily? say no more Jason in 20 seconds 😂😂 At least David Gordon Green gave us 2018.

Greetings Jimmy. I have enjoyed your channel over the course of this Halloween journey and I appreciate your enthusiasm for this new movie. I just wanted to share some comments here where there are others who see Halloween Ends in a favorable light. First of all, I am one of those people who counts Halloween 3 among my favorites, so I already have a history of finding the gold in the black sheep of the franchise. With regards to Halloween Ends, I have watched the film twice now and I am convinced that it is a masterpiece of symbolism and allegory. It also dives deep into the lore of what exactly Michael is, but it does these things without ever making it obvious or saying it out loud. I think this is where the film divides fans. People who just want a basic slasher bloodbath will not go into this movie looking for subtle cues like changes in the lighting or the significations of the 13th Tarot card to drive the story--but indeed, it is these types of things that truly flush out what is going on the entire time. The symbolism is thick in this film--for example, there are several moments when Corey is being rejected or abused when he is bathed in blue light. Michael's lair is also filled with blue light. This is a call out to the subtle blue used for Michael in the original Halloween. The culmination of this symbolism is the scene where Corey--right after locking eyes with Michael--ducks in front of the pipe leading out of the sewer hideout, bathed in blue light and now a dark shape in his own right. The image is literally the symbol of rebirth. These cues show us the moments when Corey is literally being born to darkness. Another example: Lorie writes about Fate at a certain point in her memoire. This is intercut with scenes building to the relationship of Allyson and Corey. It will be recalled that the first time Lorie ever saw Michael, it was while he stood across the road from her high school and her teacher was speaking about the unavoidable necessity of Fate. This is related to a segment when Allyson tells Corey that she always felt like she knew him after the babysitting accident and then one day, Lorie finally brought Corey to her. The implications here are deeply philosophical and suggest that just as Michael was an unavoidable part of Lorie's Fate, so too is falling in love with Corey part of Allyson's Fate. This is further elaborated by the constant message in the film that the people of Haddonfield pass their own trauma down to their children. While this is done via abuse with characters like Corey and the band kid, in Allyson's case Lorie passes on her own Fate din spite of trying to make her happy. Indeed, the fact that Lorie passes her Fate to Allyson by trying to improve Allyson's life answers the question asked in her memoire: "Are we controlled by the elements and Fate?" The answer is yes, because even acting on good intent leads to the same outcome. Indeed, Corey too is a victim of Fate--the accidental death of the kid he was babysitting triggered the entire chain of events that lead him to the shape. Fate is also linked to Tarot 13--the Death card--which can represent non-negotiable and transformative events in a person's life. Tarot 13 is linked to the zodiacal sign Scorpio which represents the revelation of things hidden in the underworld as well as transformations of being. In my opinion, the one big mistake in this film was showing Corey wrestle Michael to the ground and steal his mask. They should simply have shown Michael giving the mask to Corey which would have felkt like a tremendous payoff to their previous scenes together. I could go on and on, but Ill just close and say that I believe this movie--and especially the director's cut if we ever see it--will one day be one of the most discussed cult classics of the franchise.

Fantastic review! I really really enjoyed Halloween Ends. I found the story very engaging and interesting. One major plus for me is Rohan Campbell’s performance as Corey. He did a fantastic job and is very likable, so I was very invested in the character. I agree with you that Carpenter’s score here is the best in the trilogy. It’s so fresh and unique and I keep listening to it. I love the music that plays after Michael stops strangling Corey and we see that montage of Corey’s memories. I also just love that scene and how the camera slowly spins, making it look like the sewer tunnel is some kind of vortex that Corey is in. My favorite scene is when Michael kills the cop. The way he gets a surge of energy and starts shaking as the Halloween theme plays gives me chills. We’ve never seen this version of the Shape before and the way he moves and kind of hunches over looks so weird and creepy. I just wish there was a bit more of the Shape in this film. After that rush of energy I thought Michael was going to make a glorious return and be his old self again. That didn’t happen to the extent I would’ve liked, but at least he had that cool kill with the nurse. I wish there was a bit more suspense before the final fight with Laurie, but I’m pretty okay with it. I think the film is kind of sloppy here and there but it doesn’t really bother me that much because overall the film just worked for me. The more I think about it the more I love it.

I got out of the theater like 8 hours ago and this has stayed with me the whole time. I think this was brilliant, but necessarily perfect, but so ballsy and unique. I adored it.

Though I give the movie 2 out of 4 stars, I found it to be a big letdown. I knew Michael wasn't in it as much as in other films, but I went into it thinking the filmmakers filled his absence with scenes that would make his absence less noticeable. The problem I have with this movie is that nothing prior (at least to my knowledge) set up the Corey scenario. It felt like the filmmakers really didn't know how to end it within two hours, so they decided on that route. And then they killed him off. I found the big climax between Michael and Laurie to be underwhelming, and it left me wondering what changed from the previous movies regarding Michael being seemingly indestructible. Just my opinion and I plan to watch it again when I buy the 4k, so maybe my opinion will change.

This was the best in the trilogy in my opinion. If you were expecting the same damn movie with the same "Michael comes back and kills half the town" plot, you'll be disappointed. They went a different direction and that took some balls. And I think they pulled it off flawlessly
