Tbh i'd have rather watched a 2 hour film in a docu-style, following old-ass Michael Myers over those four years living in that sewer. And he comes out odd days, dumpster diving, sitting out in the underpass on summer nights, toasting a bag of marshmallows, alongside that hobo. Just show Michael walking along the street, left his mask at home in the sewer, and no one knows who he is. Then cut to him just back in the sewer, sitting there combing the bit of matted hair on his mask. Honestly i would have found that more entertaining than what we got in "Ends".

Different isn't necessarily bad. I love Halloween 3 because it's about as different as you can get from the other movies. But Ends spends most of its runtime being a long Criminal Minds episode about a new character and all the established characters we're far more emotionally invested in get pushed to the background, including Michael Myers himself. And when the climax arrives, it's far too brief and lands with a dull thud because the movie spent too much time on that new character and not enough time building toward the climactic fight.
@yveltalpoderoso13032 жыл бұрын
The problem is that the new character doesn’t go anywhere , he gets kill off and have no importance in the story after that , they could kill Michael and having him be the next Michael

You're different is never always bad but if this was in the beginning I think a lot of people would have been on board with Corey character and in it self this third film has a lot of problems that really doesn't make sense
@glennwelsh97842 жыл бұрын
@@yveltalpoderoso1303 That is what ultimately renders his character pointless. They devoted most of the film to introducing and developing him, and then kill him off when the third act starts, essentially making it all a waste of time. It does feel like the plan was to focus on his transformation into Michael's successor for future films, but then some studio exec got scared and made them kill off Corey, probably because killing off iconic slasher villains and replacing them with imposters or copycats hasn't turned out well in films (Friday The 13th Part 5, for example), or the Halloween series famously tried to continue the series without Michael Myers once before to disastrous results (again, I love Halloween 3 and it has gained a more positive re-appraisal over the years, but it famously bombed because people wanted Michael).

But what they made of it was so disappointing to me. I was also expecting a way more dramatic showdown between Michael and Laurie. And what was even the point of having Lindsay in the movie? Taking the finale of a much anticipated trilogy, implanting an entirely new lead character that didn't exist in the first 2 parts, and minimizing the main character and draw of the entire franchise is definitely different. Different just doesn't work when it's suddenly thrown in at the climax of a trilogy. This film barely registers as a Halloween film at all. Director Green should have saved this storyline about Cory for possible future Halloween films. Then he could have fleshed the character out instead of having him transform ridiculously in a matter of mere days for reasons that are honestly murky at best. Try something different at the beginning of a story arch, not at the end! It'd be easily possible to edit together well over 50% of "Halloween Ends" and show it to an unsuspecting audience and they'd have no clue it's related to the franchise whatsoever.
@awesomeartdigital60772 жыл бұрын
Everyone keeps saying they sidelined or minimized the main characters is just not true, we saw plenty of Lori, we saw plenty of her granddaughter, it showed them just living life outside of Michael, it showed them taking a moment just being people instead if running in fear every 5 min. Lori solving basically a new evil rising, I though was awesome as she knows evil. So sidelined No way they were very much apart of the entire movie, I think people just gripe to much at the slightest change in direction. This ending was great, at least for me.

Contrary to what others are saying, I really enjoyed this trilogy, Halloween 2018-21 and 22. I highly enjoyed all 3, I loved its direction and where it lead to. For Halloween Ends its not that I don't see people's point of view I just don't agree with their view, As a whole the direction for Ends made a lot of sense, Micheal is not Supernatural he's just a man who has just embraced pure evil a killing machine with no conscience but eventually he will lose the battle as age sets in. Its fine not everyone is going to like something and there will always be people left disappointed, I've never know any movie or TV show were fans were conflicted, where fans hated something, You can't please everyone, that's just facts of life. But I bet you 10 years from now people will appreciate this final entry more. So Im sorry that I don't share most of its bad reviews. I though the climax was well done and it brought Michael to a final end a conclusion, theirs no hidden stones, there's nothing left opened ended, Michael is dead, he's not supernatural and he's not going to find a resurrection for if he does it will be some poor attempt by some filmmaker and it will just fail. The only thing left is the evil he left behind. I watched all 4 movies last night, "78" "2018" "2021" and finally "2022" a very enjoyable evening.

I'm all for going in a different direction with sequels, especially when you're a dozen movies deep into a franchise. But at the same time, you can't have promo material that flat out says "Every scare has led to this" and then turn around and deliver a film that largely focuses on a character we've never been introduced to before. Part 8 with Busta and Part 5 and Zombies H2 are the worst of the series in my opinion. This one was interesting and a good story but just doesn't feel like it should be apart of this Halloween trilogy because of the random focus on this new character. Jamie and Michael facing off felt like an after thought and had this movie just focused on Corey and Michael and been stand alone it would have been better because the idea of Michael getting a sidekick is interesting. Overall once I accepted the story the movie was good for what it was but doesn't feel connected to the other 2. Story aside, sorry but not interested in the homage to Halloween III with the blue title and credits. And what happened to the Halloween theme music? I didn’t feel like I was watching a Halloween movie AT ALL. Such few and brief scenes of Lindsey!! She was shockingly underused after she was the highlight of Halloween Kills. I much rather have seen more of her instead of that crazy mother that kisses her son like that and those (terrible acting) bullies always in the car. Gosh they were such awful actors. I liked Ends because, like you said, we’ve seen the same old Halloween formula for decades and at least this trilogy attempted to not only do something different, but actually give the franchise some meaning outside of just Michael trying to kill his sister or people in general. What I didn’t like in the new one, and I’m still scratching my head over (SPOILER ALERT): . . . . . . . . The scene where Corey just fights Michael, overpowers him, then steals his mask. Granted, by this point, you just have to accept the fact that Michael had already let the kid go but the whole scene played out like a father tussling with his pissed off teenaged son, and the son punks him. I know this isn’t *technically* the same Michael Myers that we grew up with and the 2018 one made sure we knew that. But c’mon son!
@NYC_Goody2 жыл бұрын
That's the exact scene that bugged me and well the whole sidekick thing. I can absolutely suspend my disbelief that Michael is initially letting this kid bring victims to em so he can regain some strength but then after to work with him? No. I liked when Corey was on his own doing the killings though. And back to Corey punking Michael, I get this is a different timeline but in 18 and kills it established he was ruthless, so I'm not sure what you mean by 18 established this is a different Michael. It sounds like you're insinuating he would let this happen, but to me there's absolutely no way he would going off his actions in the last 2 movies lol. What? He started to care about the kid like a teacher mentor kind of thing? Michael's emotionless so that confused me. And at the end am I going crazy or that kill on Corey didn't seem cold, but it came off like he mercy killed him? Just seems so silly
@sneakykamon2 жыл бұрын
@@NYC_Goody What I mean by 2018 establishing that this is a different Michael is that they distilled him to the pure essence of evil without any sort of motivation. I’ve been saying this on other reviews but Ends reminded me a lot of what I heard H5 was meant to be, with Jamie Lloyd taking up after Michael and killing more people. When Michael had Corey in his grasp and looked him in the eyes and practically saw what he had done, I took that as a subtle hint of Michael just being a vessel for evil. What makes The Shape such an enduring villain is just that - he’s a shape. You can mold him into whatever you want him to be. Its hard for me to explain to be honest, but the way I saw this trilogy was that it was never about The Shape to begin with. It was always going to be about Laurie and the town of Haddonfield hence the focus going further away from The Shape. He was just the shadow that enveloped the town. Update: I guess what I mean is since John Carpenter designed The Shape to be an entity with no rhyme or reason as to why it would go around killing people, there’s really no explanation as to why it wouldn’t kill someone either. The character is very flexible in that way. The only thing that has been consistent for over 40 years is its evil nature.
@JesusFlores-rw8ry2 жыл бұрын
Spoiler I completely forgot about that scene but wasn’t Michaels plan was to get to Laurie, he does end up killing Corey but idk
@hanselthecaretaker2 жыл бұрын
First off Michael was weak from being in hiding for four years and not killing. Living off of rats most likely. This is evident by how frail he appears at first. He would’ve snapped Cory’s neck with one hand at full strength when he grabbed him, but the way it turns out he might’ve seen himself in the kid a bit. The same kind of darkness manifesting in the eyes. And when Cory basically nurses him back to somewhat fighting strength by delivering victims (you can see how Michael reacts after that first kill, like it reinvigorated him almost orgasmically), it’s almost like some weird catharsis because he’s never been in this situation before, having an “ally” of sorts. I think it’s implied that Michael still wasn’t in killing machine mode when Cory got away with his mask. His brain or what’s left of one couldn’t fully comprehend why the person who helped restore his strength was now retaliating. This confusion dissipates by the time they’re in the house when Michael is grabbed by Cory near death. Probably the closest thing to a mercy kill one could hope for from Michael.

I gotta say sometimes bait and switches absolutely fail and sometimes I think they add for more of a surprising in a good way experience. In this case, I say it did a little bit of both for me because I actually liked Corey's character. I thought the actress who played Allyson in this movie wasn't great but not terrible either? I did question her decisions with Corey though. I really thought this movie was entertaining enough to be average (and my favorite in the new trilogy) I thought 18 was whatever and kills was terrible. I'd say ends was like a 3 or 3.5 outta 5 for me. Halloween kills is a masterpiece compared to ends lol. If you want to get away from the formula of Halloween don’t do a Halloween movie . Between ends and season 8 of game of thrones and black Christmas and matrix resurrections I’m tired of directors just saying fuck it I’ll do my own thing .

I really liked this movie. It was very well done and Michael was in it more than early reviews led me to believe. It was a satisfying ending for me. Laurie deserves a happy ending and that is what she got. Jamie Lee Curtis has been a part of this for over 40 years. It basically gave her the successful career she has today. She gets a happy ending and rides off into the sunset with someone she is romantically interested in and Allison gets a fresh start away from Haddonfield. This is different in a good way.

At least it was a little better than jeepers creepers reborn. But still, Halloween Ends was a horrible movie.

I had a great time!! I’ve been watching these movies my whole life and it was so freshening to NOT see the same thing again after all these years. It was the End to her story, and the character deserved to have a big send off. They never hid this was going to be different and people are mad that it was different 😭🤣

Eh, that's not really true. It was advertised as the final battle and the movie they promised didn't happen until the final 15 minutes. The stuff the movie focused on wasn't even in the trailer. It's fine to do something different, the different still has to be good. It's a cheap defense to just say blandly say "oh you wanted the same thing over and over again" when people are fully articulating why the new thing didn't work for them.

I couldn't disagree more about them not hiding anything. Nowhere in the trailers or any of the TV spots for this movie do they give you any idea that this movie is mostly about the descent into madness of Corey "Archie" Cunningham. Sure if you're the kind of fan who's delving into every interview with the cast and crew you'll probably hear them talking about trying to spin a different story, but as someone who came into this relatively cold outside of seeing the trailer and a couple commercials, none of that prepared me for what I was getting myself into with this. (I also want to stress this in itself isn't a bad thing-but you can't also promote this movie like it's all leading up to this epic Michael x Laurie showdown and then give people a movie about some random new character and expect fans to not be disappointed, either.)

It's divisive because it's a horrible movie but a lot of people will say it's amazing just to be different

I'm in the middle because it both had good ideas and bad ideas.

My favorite Myers sequel. Not the same ass shit. Liked the Lost Highway homage too

That 'different isn't necessarily bad' excuse. If you're doing a trilogy, then START with THAT. Don't give us the same twofer then try to deep cut with the third AGAIN.

It’s cool that they were trying to be different but I just don’t think they nailed it if you really kind of think about it, you could’ve just enjoyed the movie without all the extra stuff in my opinion

yea same this film had flaws and all, but i really liked how daring it was.

Personally, the last Halloween movie was the worst big Hollywood horror movie I have ever wasted my time on. I had low standards too. So, I honestly am not in a rush to see this movie because of that.

People liking it cause it was different doesn’t change the fact the story was trash. First off Laurie’s daughter wants to throw her whole life away for a man she’s known 3 days? And Michael was killing like 40 people in the last movie. In this one he’s weak and also supernatural… so why is he weak and frail man now? And the bullies were horribly written. They really had my chemical romance band geeks as the bullies? And a grown ass man not only gets his ass whooped by them but then beats up Michael myers who killed god knows how many people the last movie. Y’all can’t sit her and tell me this is well written or well executed
