Halloween is a 1978 American independent horror film directed, produced, and scored by John Carpenter, co-written with Debra Hill, and starring Donald Pleasence and Jamie Lee Curtis in her film debut. The film is set in the fictional midwestern town of Haddonfield, Illinois. On Halloween, six year old Michael Myers murders his older sister by stabbing her with a kitchen knife. Fifteen years later, he escapes from a psychiatric hospital, returns home, and stalks teenager Laurie Strode and her friends. Michael's psychiatrist Dr. Sam Loomis suspects Michael's intentions, and follows him to Haddonfield to try to prevent him from killing.
The limited budget also dictated the filming location and time schedule. Halloween was filmed in 21 days in the spring of 1978 in South Pasadena, California and Sierra Madre, California (cemetery).
An abandoned house owned by a church stood in as the Myers house. Two homes on Orange Grove Avenue (near Sunset Boulevard) in Hollywood were used for the film's climax. The crew had difficulty finding pumpkins in the spring, and artificial fall leaves had to be reused for multiple scenes.
Tobe Hooper's The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974) is sometimes given the distinction of also starting the slasher craze and preceding Halloween in originating the stylistic techniques as well as the usual plot devices. The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, released five years prior to Halloween, has several things in common with the film: a group of free-spirited teenagers falling into the clutches of a sadistic, weapon-wielding masked villain ( Leatherface ) with a lone heroine. The film has also gone onto significantly influence the horror genre, much like Halloween.
Several subsequent films with similar stylistic elements and themes became popular with audiences, including Friday the 13th, and later, A Nightmare on Elm Street .

You know what fascinates me? The TREES! As everything around the trees are destroyed and forgotten we have these exact same trees; simply more mature and they act as landmarks! Amazing

Right. It´s funny to see them having grown in breadth instead of height. Like most people when they get older.

You did a fine job of not only filming the original scene but the same shot angles and lighting most times AND split shots so it is easier to compare. Bravo to you Herve Attia! Excellent! That being said they just don't make movies like they used to I've seen plenty of horror movies that are more current but none match those from the mid 70's-mid 80s.

You know as i was watching the kid meeting Micheal scene and then the present with the fencing and bars around the school. I remember the 70's and 80's when there were no fencing or bars at schools for example our school at Henderson Elementary was an open school now I've seen it and it's closed up with bars and fencing to the front entrance to the office. I guess just goes to show how much the times have change from the laid back 70's and 80's to the unpredictability of the times we live now with covid19 to the unrest of the riots and dismay tearing up our country. God how I miss the 70's and 80's. I'm not a white either I'm a Mexican American deplorable former US Navy Radioman Petty Officer 86-96.

went to LA on vacation last month - you KNOW I had to go to these sights! Took lots of pictures. All very easy to find - the Pasadena locations are within minutes of each other, walking. The Hollywood houses used in the film are about a minute away from the original Nightmare on Elm Street house too, so you gotta see that if looking for the Halloween houses. The owners of Jamie Lee's house are into it, they have a little tribute plaque on their porch, and have a pumpkin prop that you can borrow to take your picture where she sat.

thats so cool the owners are cool about the film. But, with all the real life serial killers that have terrorized California in the past century, I think it would make me to uneasy to live in that house.

The level of detail to preserve the past and present together and the mixing of the two together makes this a historical landmark for future generations. I worry that this may change dramatically someday but now we have the archives to enjoy.

I don't know what it is about this movie that grips me. Maybe it's because of the time period in my life when I first saw it, I was 13 years old. It scared the crap out of me. I always loved horror. I was big into creature feature but this movie topped it. The Midwest feel to it also holds me to this timeless classic. I can't count how many times I've seen this.

same with me Roger. I was ten and my older sister and her friend got me and my friend in to see it. Even though I don't feel like others about the film itself (think it's really just a lame horror film), I do share your nostalgia, and I'm a fan of John Carpenter's other films especially Starman and The Thing. Just spotted for the first time watching this film on cable today, that one of the kids are watching the original The Thing on t.v.

It’s a damn shame, that people can’t make good horror movies today, the 70’s & 80’s were the best for the genre, today’s Hollywood just plain sucks and is to predictable

Like that you shot the one house that's had an addition since filming, with the addition in darkness - cool. The same with the house that's been moved since filming. These California houses are much like Debra Hill's real house in Haddonfield. - Brian McFadden, author "The Real Woman Behind Halloween," Debra Hill.

Você está de parabéns por este grande trabalho, Halloween é o meu filme favorito de terror, é impressionante como as casa estão em boas estado de conservação.
