Hi Srg. Dic's. No secrets here: The projector was about $380 on eBay. I already had the software needed (Adobe Creative Cloud), but if not, cheapest deal is $49 for a month's license. I have some purchased video elements from AtmosFX that vary in price. Check out their website. Then of course you need a computer to make it - preferably a laptop so you can run the video from it to the projector too. And an audio interface that can connect to a couple of speakers for the audio. You can check prices on that online. Other than that, it's just the time invested. :)

@@ProjectThisHouse I was wondering if you did it yourself. Now I’m even more impressed. I thought that maybe you’d lent your house as a canvas for an animations business like Atmosfx, or are a professional yourself. Your projector must be powerful. Did you do an animations making course? I decided to have a go myself, initially to make a cancellation message because of COVID 19, then I thought I’d share it and now I think I want to keep experimenting. It’s not on a grand scale like yours. I’m only learning how to make videos, so I’m very curious about how you did it. Again, the idea of the skeleton was great. It added suspense. You are so talented. I also think that playing around with this stuff keeps the child in the adult alive. Are you going ahead with your display this year? Hi Farmer Row21. Thank you for watching. It's fairly simple. First you map your house as the projector sees it. This is done with a paint program. (hint: google "projection mapping") :)

Hi there, flyinsparkey. Sorry for the slow response. I had to watch the whole video at xlights and it was looooong...but very informative. I think your problem is, that you didn't make masks - you made shapes. It's easy to make that mistake, as you're using the same tool. To make masks, you need to do it with a layer activated, otherwise the tool will create a shape instead on its own layer, hence why you're ending up with a lot of separate layers instead of masks contained in the same layer. I hope that helped you a bit. :)

@ProjectThisHouse5 жыл бұрын
Hi Hannah. Thanks for stopping by and watching. Well, since projection mapping IS fake, the object is to make it look real. :) How is it done? The first step of the production is to make a precise outline of your house, as it is seen through the projector. This outline is then filled in with textures and videos using various graphics programs depending on ambition and skill. Some of the video elements are purchased, but I make most of it myself. The better you can match the elements to the contours of the house, the more believable the animations will look...even if it's fake. :)

Hi Michael Mastelero. Thanks for watching. I make the videos myself. Everything from mapping the house manually in a paint program, to the actual editing of the video in Adobe After Effects. Some of the elements used are bought from AtmosFX.com. I wish I had the money to buy Lightform. That would definitely make the mapping easier. :)

This is probably a dumb question when I can look it up, but how did you do this? Thanks
@ProjectThisHouse5 жыл бұрын
Hi Paco Ba. There are no dumb questions here. This is done by using a video projector to show a movie custom made to fit to the specs of the house. That was the short version. How you make the actual video is the long story. :)
@pacoba64325 жыл бұрын
ProjectThisHouse I guess that was my more direct question, the video itself. I found a company that starts them for 99 dollars but I’m sure making your own is a lot of work. Finding all the animations I haven’t found any other than actually paying for a custom one.
@ProjectThisHouse5 жыл бұрын
@@pacoba6432 Ha ha, sorry for the misunderstanding. Well, AtmosFX.com is a good place to start, but their videos are just to be used as elements in your own video, as they were ment for a TV, monitor or wall projection. I hope to do some "How To" videos after Halloween, that can give you an idea og how this is done. :)

how did you calibrate that? screens on my house would have been better, yet your method is so cheap. it must have taken -hours- months to calibrate and make , all that going to waste on one night, one day. i cant wait to see what is to happen this time round.
@ProjectThisHouse5 жыл бұрын
Hi 506. The "calibration", as you call it, is actually pretty simple and done in about 10-15 minutes. You put your projector infront of your your house. Mark the position, so you can replicate it. Then connect a laptop and open a paint program. Make sure the projector is covering the whole house, and then it's just about drawing all the features of your house. You can go simple and just do the big features, or you can be very detailed. Afterwards, you save the outline and use it as a template in your video editing program to fill in the content. As long as you design it according to the outline, the final product will fit your house perfectly....but that was the short story. LOL :)

@ProjectThisHouse5 жыл бұрын
Hi nom nom. Thank you for watching and for your kind words. Making the projection match the building it is being projected onto so perfectly, is what "projection mapping" is all about. The first step of the production is to make a precise outline of your house, as it is seen through the projector. This outline is then filled in with textures and videos using various graphics programs depending on ambition and skill. Some of the video elements are purchased, but I make most of it myself.

I am just starting with some house projections. Wondering what tools you use to make the video. I'm using madmapper to get video on the house but creating the video is still a bit of a challenge. Lots of free stuff out there, but looking for some tips on how to create that great house facade and then how to combine other videos on top of that. For example if I wanted to take the facade and put spiders or a spider web overlayed, so that you can still see the facade. Sorry for rambling, mostly looking for recommendations on video creation.
@ProjectThisHouse5 жыл бұрын
Hi Michael. Thanks for stopping by and watching. I've just discovered Madmapper myself, so I don't know the capabilities of the software, but basically you have to think of this as layers. First layer is of course the house texture, which I usually find by doing a google search for images of "old wood wall" or "abandoned house" etc. Once you have positioned those images you add the next layer. If you want that to be e.g. the spider web, it needs to be a file with an alpha channel which makes everything but the web transparent. If you have an image with the web on e.g. a black background and no transparency, you have to use a blending mode to make the black see through, but I don't know Madmapper's capabilities in that regard. I hope that helped a bit? Sorry for rambling. LOL :)

@ProjectThisHouse2 жыл бұрын
Hi Phillip Guillen. Thanks for stopping by and watching, I really appreciate it. Anything is possible with projection mapping and there's plenty of help and tutorials to get you started. Google "projection mapping tutorial" here on KZbin and join the Facebook group "Holiday Projection Mapping", then you're already halfway there. In your specific case, I would use "Character Animator" from the Adobe Creative Cloud package, and also "After Effects" from the same package. With the first program, you can animate your pumpkin to talk or sing using a webcam on your computer, and then you'd use After Effects to composite that video on a map of your house, with textures and other AtmosFX footage if you like. There are free alternatives to both Character Animator and After Effects, but I'm not too familiar with them to offer any advice. :)

@@beaucopeland243 If you have the projector, you're almost there. However, it matters which projector you have. @ProjectThisHouse4 жыл бұрын
@@gmcateer08, your light intensity depends on how far back your projector is placed. 4000 lumens placed 30 feet away is obviously not the same as 4000 lumens placed 60 ft away. The loss of light intensity over distance is brutal. Goggle the "Inverse-Square Law of Light". But if you look at my projections, I've learned through trial and error which colors I can use, and which ones just turn up as a muddled mess. So I'm sticking to a reduced palette with mostly bright colors. :)

Hi Gary Hawkins. Yes, you're right, I should have put more information in the description back when I first posted this video, as I've answered hundreds and hundreds of questions like yours over the years. But I like the interaction, so here goes: I use Adobe Photoshop for the base textures of the house. I make the 3D animations in Cinema4D - and buy some that are pre-made from AtmosFX - I assemble all the animations and effects with the Photoshop-textures in Adobe AfterEffects, and render a raw video out from there. I use Adobe Premier to add the soundtrack and effects to the raw video for the final product. Now, I did plan to make some tutorials, but still haven't gotten around to it. There are some here on KZbin that are very detailed, so just search for "house mapping tutorial". :)

@Gary Hawkins There's already a handful of people out there offering the services you're referring to, but I don't know how lucrative it is when you count in the time it takes to individually alter each projection to fit a new house every time. And then there's the legality of using copyrighted material and music, if you're not making everything from scratch yourself. I think it would be easier to make a business that creates elements that people can use in their own projections, just like AtmosFX does. But is there a market for what you suggest? Absolutely! :)
