Hi Denver Kenney. This is done with a single consumer projector with 3000 lumens. For the map (that's what I call the initial mapping of the house, shape and features) any paint program will do, but Sketchbook by Autodesk is free and simple to learn. To make the actual projection (the final video shown on the house), I use Photoshop, AfterEffects and Cinema4D, but in principle, any video editing software will do. :)

If it was raining that would be a good fit for this.

Im assuming this is an ultra short throw projector? How far away from the house is it to cover the entire house would you say?
@ProjectThisHouse5 жыл бұрын
Hi Clint. Thanks for stopping by and watching. This is actually not an ultra short throw projector, just a regular short throw version positioned about 30 ft from the front of the house. I think an ultra short throw will work too, but I think the extreme wide angle will make the editing of the video require some serious distortion of the images to make them fit the mapping. If you decide to go that way, please report back with your findings, I'm very curious. :)

I really loved this years addition of telling a story, when/how did you actually decide to go full out on Halloween with these projections?
@ProjectThisHouse5 жыл бұрын
Hi Debby. Thanks for watching. I believe it was when I saw the 100th celebration of the bike race Tour De France, where they transformed the Arc de Triomphe in Paris with projection mapping. That got me looking into the technique and gave me the idea to do something similar on my house. :)

Which projector did u used? Do u know if it's possible to project on a glass with a dark layer/film on it?
@ProjectThisHouse4 жыл бұрын
Hi Fernando. Thanks for watching. I use a consumer BenQ MX819ST projector. A projector is basically just is big flashlight, and if you shine a flashlight on anything black, it just stays black. So if you want to project onto glas, it'll need a milky layer of film on it to work. I hope that helped. :)

Where can you buy these maps already made? Everyone i see online look corny and cheese like a walmart gimicky projection just cut to fit a house
@ProjectThisHouse5 жыл бұрын
Hi Jonezy1983. Thanks for watching. To get results like this, you have to make the map yourself. It will fit only your house, so unfortunately it's not something that can be mass-produced and sold. :)

how do you make these? like how do you set the projector to set the projection to match the house like that? also how do you make the video?
@ProjectThisHouse4 жыл бұрын
Hi Merona. Thanks for stopping by and watching. This is called projection mapping, and consists of two parts: First the mapping, where you place the projector so its beam covers the whole house. Then you outline the shape and features of the house in a paint program on a laptop connected to the projector while it's being projected onto the house. You mark the placement of the projector, so you can repeat it when showing the finished video. Second step, is the creation of the video, using the "map" you made of the house. I use Adobe After Effects to make the video, and place the different elements so they fit the shape of the house. Textures are done in Photoshop, some of the animations are from AtmosFX, and some I make myself. This video is pretty advanced, but it's easy to get started with something simpler, and still get a great effect. :)
