Okay, given Halo 2's troubled development, I wonder if part of going into over-drive mode was to create the assets that changed between the scrapped E3 demo and release, so instead of making one or a few maps at a time, they were only doing the main "commits" to that map and then copying and pasting the tags into the missions (hence why some of the guns are inaccessible; probably had very few assets done like the model and texture so they disabled the player's ability to pick them up

Hey I have a weird question. I have a distinct memory of reading an article on Bungie net way back in the Halo 3 days or more likely leading up to it where they showed off images of Johnson's ragdoll being thrown down a pachinko-like series of pegs. I can't for the life of me find the original or even any reference to it. I doubt anything about it made it to the final game but do you remember anything about it?
@RolloTonéBrownTown3 жыл бұрын

@Spike-133 жыл бұрын
That's so cool you found out how to do this again
@McJobless3 жыл бұрын
My assumption of the reason why this is a "playable level" is because the map compiler ignores assets that aren't actually referenced, so the easiest way to overcome that is to make a simple box and chuck everything in. The reason the common assets are stored in a working MAP file is probably because reusing the existing format was way easier than building something bespoke for shared assets.
@McJobless3 жыл бұрын
Bethesda games have levels like this, both as test maps that just weren't deleted, but also special levels designed to keep important NPCs and items alive but safe and hidden until they are needed.
@BungieStudios3 жыл бұрын
Yes. Every Halo game has these maps and the other maps will not load without these. If you replace them with say another Halo's shared, you will get some goofy ass shit like Marines doing Flood growls.
@FirestormDDash3 жыл бұрын
This map just highlights the sadness that no forge mode in all these years allowed you to place npcs. I always wanted to semi gmod halo. Make forts and put marines and elites in them. Watch them fight, etc.
@BungieStudios3 жыл бұрын
AI is harder. You have to define behaviors and pathing for them. Halo CE had a separate tool called Sapien for that.
@halinaqi21943 жыл бұрын
If I remember right, in halo 2 the ai has to have custom firing positions set up, objectives and some scripting. The ai has to know where to take cover and where to fire from. It also needs to have conditions to know if they are losing or winning the fight. It also needs to be scripted to move from one encounter to the next. With those 3, you would be able to make a level editor (including a way to make custom maps and terrain is a bonus).

It's likely this is both a Runtime map to find runtime errors when interacting with things and also served as a backup room to load when the game can't find a map file (say if a level transition is called but the next map doesn't exist yet, this loads instead).

Hey, I think you should make a video on the new Easter egg they found recently On halo five at the beginning of the level (I forgot what it’s called) where you are on meridian but you are trying to get to the elevator. At the beginning if you immediately boost to a door behind you, than you will earn a warthog I am not sure about how the player count works or if it will happen with less than 4 players but all players need to boost there quick. Anyways you have covered most of the Easter eggs but this is new.
