Man I remember being top ranks in matchmaking. Felt good being one the best in something. Took a couple hours to find a game when you're in the high 40s and it was basically impossible to get a real game unless we forced host to a legit player to prevent getting modded or standbyed. Those were the days. All of us at the top of BTB ranks and Slayer knew eachother. Felt meaningful as a teenager who wasn't able to make it to the real MLG tournaments. At least we had that mini version of fame and priceless memories while they lasted

Yeah, I had this same exact experience, except it was about a year before the servers got shut down. Hit a 48, was the highest (active) ranked player on the game (lol) and made a clan called "Arrange", because you could only Arrange games after rank 40, or you'd only match host booters. I'd give anything to have these days back. Halo 2 had a lot of flaws, like off host BR was horrible vs host, but it's still the best online gaming experience top to bottom that I think anyone could have had.

i dont remember that being the case at all... tbf i was around lvl 43 for the most part... so maybe high 40s is truly different.. but i got games with 50-30 so a couple hours sounds like maybe 15 years of inflation hahah.. but maybe im wrong fun fact i googled up the h2 ranks and i always felt like 42+ was a "different" level of play and it turns out that win xp starts to get nerfed at lvl42.. i never knew anything about how much xp +/- you would get from a game until just now.. what good times..

ThouArtOfWar after they got rid of bloom it felt a lot better A lot of players said it was better than H3 after the bloom was removed, only major deficit Reach had besides the bloom was poor maps for competitive play, Zealot and Countdown were the only 2 used by MLG out of the maps that shipped with the disc. To be fair only Guardian, Construct, Narrows and The Pit were used for H3, but the DLC maps for H3 were also a lot better than Reach's. I'd definitely say that Reach still had a lot of Halo qualities to it that Halo 4 didn't have, but you just had to play on the bare minimum of the game to get it.

I was a non-cheater, I got a 44 legitimately. It was very difficult though as I only had one guy that I played with and faced hundreds of derankers. I did however have to Bridge my team-mate host every game just so no one could standbye or hardmod against us. We always played fairly. Man when that sound came in from the private message, so many memories. Looking forward to playing it again this November.

RemoteGamingYT It was the best game ever! I grew up playing games in the 1980's. I played Halo from when it was first release on XBOX. I played Halo 2 in several tournaments across the UK, came first once. I played Halo 2 online from the beginning till the end when it went offline. It was because of Halo 2 that I decided to study and pursue career in Computer Networking and Internet Technology. Learning how to bridge host generated my interest in computer networks and now I am a Cisco Network Engineer. Playing Halo 2 in the Scotland on a 1MB internet connection against you guys from America wasn't easy, the lag was unreal most of the time. I remember the first time someone used 'Standbye' against me. Omg, I didn't have a clue what was happening. I also remember the games playing against softmods and hardmods, cheating ruined Halo 2 for a lot of people. Modders caused a massive decline in interest within the community. But then people discovered how to bridge host, a way of fighting back against the evils of modding, it gave you the abaility to play a fair game without being cheated and kick modders out of the lobby. The glitches in Halo 2 gave the game character and Xbox Live wouldn't have survived without it. 10 Years later, 343i are doing everything we wanted back then. Bridging host was the only way of avoiding modders, maybe if you played Halo 2 at high ranks then you would understand that it's was impossible to find a match made game where cheating with mods didn't occur. Modding and Standbye, all started in the US. It ruined Halo 2 matchmaking and was a bigger problem for Bungie than Bridging ever was! Bridging could be used unfairly to kick players, yes. But bungie patched the game so that if you kicked anyone the game defaulted and no one won. I don't see bridging as cheating if it's used to play a fair game. I lost many games, because I played a fair game! Get over yourself!

A cool looking ranking system like this makes people actually care about their rank and makes every game super intense at a high level. Who cares it its not as 'optimal' as whatever advance math formula ranking system they use now. Ultimately its a video games and a system like makes every game feel huge, The professional scene is taken care of at actual tournaments anyway so who cares about having perfect 'tiers' or 'leagues'.

@@xXMalakianXVII You must have not really been around those levels then. It was a big dilemma. You either bridge host and play against a team that wasn't bridging(usually solo searchers/not a full team) which made the games pretty easy... Or choose not to bridge and get standby'd or play modders. You'd get a "legit" game every now and then, but never enough to rank up at levels 34+. 2010, it might have been different with a small population, but that's how it was in 2007.
