In my opinion, the Phaeton Helios is obviously better due to its improved fire-power; however, the standard Phaeton is still a formidable air vehicle. If you ever find yourself in a 1-v-1 scenario here’s some advice: keep your distance with the Phaeton Helios and use the cleansing beam and tracking pulse missiles to your advantage; close the gap with the standard Phaeton and dominate with the energy cannon and pulse missiles. I think the Phaeton should've been more exotic and alien, though... The design looks too much like a UNSC aircraft outfitted with Forerunner weapons... Even the Covenant has more weird-looking aircrafts

To be fair, the Covenant developed their weapons with "high technology" in mind. Humans & Forerunners in contrast focus on functionality & battle effectiveness. Humans & Forerunners are also metaphorical cousins. The result for the Covenant is exotic, but not as effective. The result for Humans & Forerunners is plain, but gets the job done. If you go deep into the story, you'll find that in the Human/Covenant war, Humans win the majority of ground side battles & other firefights. The Covenant was only winning because their Slipspace tech was more advanced & could glass planets from orbit, but since Humans won due to the Schism, the fact that they're Reclaimers, as well as Cortana's & other AIs data file thievery & reverse engineering, Humanity actually wound up more advanced than the Covenant. Now it's just the Prometheans that Human fall short against. I specify Prometheans because their caste was/is anti-human. Any other Forerunner caste would be pro-human, but they all be ded.

@@davidlong2338 There's something I wish to elaborate on first: The Promethean chapter weren't really anti-humanity, which is a misconception that 343 also partially caused. The Didact's original strategy, cutting of the human forces rather than fighting them head-on, was to minimise casualties between his forces and the humans, because even he saw humanity as a species protected by the Mantle of Responsibility. His strategies, combined with the vast resources he fielded (Teleporting planets and throwing potentially hundreds of millions of warships...) did grant him a huge edge over the humans, and the opposition was largely contained. Even in the final definitive strike against Charum Hakkor, the Forerunners stopped their advances when humanity finally yielded. This is vert important, because humanity's actions were actually more morally questionable than Forerunners' doing. The former fought a desperate, though partially justified (humanity used many dirty to downright horrifying things just to try evening the odds against the Forerunners, and their alliance with the San'Shyuum beforehand was more of the result of militaristic subjugation than mutual collaboration...), war against two celestial level foes with seemingly infinite numbers, while the Forerunners fought with clear principals and not under the doctrine of extermination. Furthermore, the Forerunners were also fighting a two-front war with the Flood being a wild card that devoured everything it touches, making humanity's stands even more questionable. And when the war ended with the Didact hoping humanity would rehabilitate, Master Builder convinced the Council, who gave into their fear and the desire to dominate, ordered humanity's devolution, turning the once powerful galactic civilization into a race of actual cavemen, which the Didact agreed, however, he saw this more as a just punishment for the war crimes humanity committed, and it was true that humanity could be seen as the greater evil of the two... Then the Flood war came, and through myriads of unexpected events, the Didact wind up having a nice little chat with a Gravemind... And things goes from terrible to undescribable for the Didact. The Gravemind projected unspeakable horror into Didact's mind, a method not to dissimilar to the Logic Plague. The Gravemind twisted his visions and morals and left him alive and forever tormented with this changed personality of his. (For some reason 343 left this entire plot point out and make Didact's turn to villainy utterly unexplained in Halo 4's terminals.) The Didact's forced insanity affected him gravely, he issued virtually ineffective tactic against the Flood (Promethean Knights), saw conquering the Galaxy after the end of the Flood war as a reasonable way to enforce, not "uphold" anymore, the Mantle, and felt a bottomless desire to exterminate all of humanity. You can say Didact's current stand against humanity is as unjustifiable as humanity's own atrocities, but please know that there was irreversible causes for his now broken psyche...

During the Bungie era, Forerunner technology was a lot more mythic and mysterious. When we first saw a Halo, we didn't know what it was for; when we learned that it was a super weapon, we didn't know how it worked until the Halo 1 terminal came out a decade later. What I'm hoping for is to see Forerunners being larger than life and truly alien again. And how about bring out some Forerunner weapons with downright bizarre functions??? Like the temporal gun cut from Halo 4. Slip-space rupture grenades. Personal teleportation device. Guns with recharging ammo. Molecular distortion fields. "Rocket" launchers firing micro black holes... Or the super ability to summon portals that opens directly to a star, raining stellar inferno to your enemies...

Well, given what you stated about the Prometheans & Humans (though I think you don't give humans enough benefit of doubt considering that they were fighting an incurable hive-intelligent zombie plague), all of the "Forerunner" weapons we've seen so far could actually be considered Promethean weapons that have become bastardized versions of their former design due to the corruption of the Ur-Didact & his (AI?) legion. Not only that, putting the "pragmatic & practical" aesthetic aside, Forerunners & Humans are still very identical & so could wind up with similar biases & preferences in their tech development. I personally would like to see if we learn more about Precursors, or even meet survivors.

They did a ninja buff to the Phaeton Helios, it has 25% more armour. When they did it I don't know. Also I want to point out that the front triangle part of the phaeton is a critical point, and the back part circle is the strong part. 36 ONI shots for standard, 45 for Helios on the triangle, but attacks on the base circle are 57 and 71 respectively making its armour on par with wraith and scorpion respectively. I was wondering if you could double check this.

Thanks man, he was actually taunting and burst firing the cleansing beam because it was the 5th time we were doing the 1-v1 (just to make data consistent). The Helios easily crushed the regular Phaeton all the previous times. I chose this clip of the 1-v-1 because I knew you guys would see the Helios at a disadvantage, sluggish, not evading much, yet it still won at that range.

Yeah, i can understand that, it is really obvious how overpowered the helious is. You se, the main reason why i started to play halo is because i was so amazed by how epic the phaeton was, i got it the certification for the phaeton really earliy in a lucky pack and i was so hyped i was shaking. I practiced it so much in forge/custom games and im really skilled with the veichle now. If the Phaeton appears again in Infinite, I would prefer it be just the Helios version. The normal one felt just like a wannabe Hornet on steroids. I wouldn’t oppose the standard being in, I just think the Hornet fulfills that role with a more classic art style attached to it. The way Halo 5 did vehicle variants was a real disgrace, but really cool at the same time. Why do we need 40 Scout Hog variants? While some fulfill different roles (ONI is strongest, Rally is fastest, and every other one except standard has slightly increased health), it’s still really stupid to have so many variants. Why not have all the camo variants of vehicles unlocked as one single thing? I think they figured that out by the time they made the Wasp and put it in the game. With only 3 variants, one of which is more unique, it really fits in more with Covenant vehicles that all have only 3-4 variants. Standard, Sword, Temple and Ultra. All of which are different. Sword is a plain HP boos, Ultra is an HP and DPS boost, and Temple is a bit of a Hit and Run style gameplay. Maybe a mobility boost as well? Standard is just standard, so it’s a debate whether or not to count it. I do. Instead of designing 50 Scout Hogs, why not give us the Falcon or Revenant? Or that cool Shadow thing? The Prowler or Specter, even (preferably Specter). Some unique guns, like the Target Designator or the cut CE weapons. Heck, they could’ve even designed a new enemy like the Sharqoi that were cut from Halo CE and 2. Or put the Drones and Engineers back in.

That it does, but trust me I put over 1,500 bullets into each Phaeton (348 bullets per damage test), and used the ONI chaingun (38 shots each for additional verification), their armor is the same.

I noticed today while playing Turbo that the vanilla Phaeton loses the ability to evade when it has taken a lot of damage, which is too bad cause that's when I need it the most! Wonder if the Helios has the same issue.
