Surprisingly, the original is lore accurate XD. Locke is very skilled in hand to hand combat, obviously not as skilled as chief but he can still hold up. Chief would have the upperhand the whole time, as he did in the original, but often in fights it isn't quite clear who has the upperhand until they have won. The skill gap while large is not enough for locke to be beaten instantly like in this. Even if locke wasn't very skilled, he wouldn't have been as much of joke as he was in this animation, purely because of the spartan armour and shields, he would have been able to take more hits.

@@Oliver-kg7ky I have no issue with him trying to put up a fight or taking a few hits, but the boy was never a threat to chief. The only reason spartan 4 can fight at all is because of the suit, they only augment enough to be able to use it. He's got training and skill, but physically they aren't much better than an olympic athlete on steroids for instance. Most of the sheer power and durability in chief's generation comes from the augments and coding in the body. A skilled spartan 4 can take on an average spartan 2 because their suit is so much better, but chief is cream of the crop, genetically perfect, to the point that it's impossible to replicate him by any means. They've even said that scientifically and genetically he is the luckiest man ever because of how perfect he was as a base human, and he was able to take more augments and boosts than anyone else. Power, speed, and combat experience have such massive gaps between him and anyone else in the lore that he should be able to take on that whole squad solo. Proper teamwork would make it hard, but he can withstand more than they can dish out and throw blows stronger than the armor can take with every move.

Excuse me while I nerd out on lore for a minute in order to explain why this video is so accurate. First off, the Master Chief has been trained EVERY SINGLE DAY since he was six years old to be the most efficient warrior mankind has ever seen. Second, his genetic augmentations FAR surpass those given to SPARTAN-IVs, to the point that half the SPARTAN-IIs either died or were horribly disfigured to the point they could no longer serve as soldiers. Third, The Chief's armor is directly connected to his brain, to the extent that as soon as his brain formulates a thought such as "I want to move my arm", the armor begins moving his arm for him. Fourth, in his armor, the chief stands a menacing SEVEN FEET TALL AND WEIGHS 1,000 POUNDS. Imagine the force the Chief would carry behind a single punch. In the novels, the Master Chief is able to deflect a missile being shot directly at him (albeit with Cortana's help). Taking into account the amount of speed and force that he is able to produce, the Chief would absolutely obliterate Locke in a hand-to-hand confrontation. Halo 5 was absolutely made by people who had no understanding of Halo's lore.

Yeah like especially when you consider just the base fact that the Spartan 2 suit is full giant ass titanium plates that go beyond the point of being called plates and basically are just chunks of titanium on a massive ass exo suit within underneath that is a bodysuit comprise of insanely fucking durable yet still mobile and flexible material to protect the joints that can't be covered by the massive ass aforementioned titanium plates and on top of all of that is a shield that again is powered by the suit which seems to have a massive ass pool of energy to draw from with inside of all of that is a guy who is Genetically Enhanced and probably could honestly pick up a fucking small car carry out on his back even without the damn suit... like battles between Spartans should have their Shields dropping damn near instantaneously due to the sheer force of moving that much weight that fucking quickly...

Although a lot of this is obviously meant for comedic value, I actually kind of like this version for different reasons. Even though I like and will always like chief more than Locke, a cutscene like this would give me more of an appreciation for Locke as a character and make me feel a sense of sadness for Locke. Locke is ultimately correct about Cortana in the original scene, so him getting beaten down while trying to help Chief would make me actually feel something for Locke, unlike the robotic, no personality Locke that we get in the game. Perhaps even throughout the game, Locke's skills increase for a fight more similar to the actual in game version. That's my take.

Jokes aside this just shows how much better this scene (and the whole story for that matter) could’ve been. Imagine if they developed Osiris enough over all of these missions to make us actually like them. We definitely don’t want Chief to get caught but we also don’t want Osiris to completely fail and go home empty-handed since we’re in their shoes for 80% of the game and should have some sort of connection to them by this point. Show us more of their humanity compared to blue team, their insecurities and fears about taking on a mission of this caliber, show us the ramifications that’ll come if they fail. Make us care. Osiris team is so unbearably confident about being able to capture the man who saved humanity. Embrace the fact that Chief is a legend. Make them FEAR him. Imagine that kind of buildup finally leading to this huge, heavily marketed confrontation. Our one on one fight. Chief vs Locke, and Locke gets his ass completely handed to him. Chief doesn’t get close to being hit even once. It’s an absolute landslide victory. The music swells like it does in the video as the beaten Locke slowly stands up, refusing to give in. We want Chief to walk away but we now feel for Locke as the underdog here. This mission means everything not just to Osiris, but to humanity. We don’t want him to lose. Maybe Chief sees that same stubbornness in Locke that Cortana once saw in him, gains some mutual respect for his hunter, and simply decides to escape now and leave the man with the dignity he has left. Something like this is how it should’ve been in my humble opinion.

I dunno. When you look at the original fight scene Locke actually comes off as just as pathetic to me, if not even more amateurish. When I broke down the original fight it was chief fucking around not wanting to injure a fellow soldier, then locke (after bringing his rifle into hitting range like a total retard and violating basic bootcamp training, before chief slaps it aside faster than he can react) manages to crack his visor because chief doesnt even have his shields up (since he is being nice guy and doesnt have time) then chief starts to kick his ass as he takes it a bit more seriously finally locke does super retard hour, and in a.move.that makes me laugh every time I see it: *Dramatically holds up and reveals his secret weapon* ah yes I have a special way to contain chief! Let me just reveal it to him in an obvious and over dramatic manner and clumsily lunge at the super soldier who is stronger faster and has better reflexes than me! So Chief just grabs wrist and makes him hit himself. Its so bad. Its SO BAD. It makes ONI's R&D and Locke (a supposed seasoned soldier and diplomat) look SO damn bad and incompetant I laugh my ass off.

Trying to send Osiris to get Cortana instead of Blue Team just makes it look like ONI wants to rip data from her and then dispose of her...which is probably the truth. Sure, if we read the books and stuff we know Osiris will probably ensure Cortana is not harmed and her data is not used against humanity by ONI and might even deliver her to Hood himself directly. But, Blue Team doesn’t know anything about Osiris and its members. They do, however, know ONI is borderline traitorous with ambitions of controlling humanity, though admittedly with honestly good intentions at heart. If Osiris succeeds, Cortana is retrieved and humanity risks being basically conquered by ONI and turned into a bloody and dark police state ruled by fear. If Blue Team wins, Cortana is returned and humanity begins the path of reclamation. Osiris isn’t the bad guy, but their faction in the political intrigue of the UNSC is definitely the villain.

Granted Spartan IV's are the best the program could do without all the kid stealing and invasive reprogramming but even if IV's were on par with II's which from my understanding they are close, Chief has years of experience under his belt that Locke cannot hope to see.
