Damn shame they changed it in anniversary and the Master Chief Collection. It was always so haunting and mysterious, and when the flood showed up actually kinda gave a sense of dread as well.

the new music is fantastic, even H2A. but I think if they kept the original music, changed the lighting to fit the styl of the original (in the original Halo mission the skyes were kinda grey. not bright orange. it looked more mysterious that way, darken the swamps of 343 guilty spark and the halls of the library) then it would be perfect

So, I watched Late Night Gaming's video on what made Halo 1-3's soundtracks so great, and one thing he mentioned was the almost 'war in the heavens'-nature of the music. Honestly, I think he hit the nail on the head, especially with the Halo 1 loading screen in mind. It, again, gives a sense that the world of Halo is a heavenly and alluring, yet unwelcome place, but mankind's gonna try and live in it. This theme also drives home that first-game sense of mystery that I love so much. You don't know what's out there, and that only adds to the allure of it. I just wish that feeling didn't vanish with time and sequels.

The fact the music is tied to the loading screen progress is great. If the loading took too long, the music would be natural and long (unless it lingered for a bit too long), but if it went fast, I always enjoyed the quicker music sting.

This loading screen is brilliant, absolutely brilliant. Before you encounter The Flood portrays the mysterious feeling of The halo ring brilliantly. When the Flood are finally introduced this wondrous mysterious alien world is now a war zone. This loading screen is the calm before the storm.

I think Marty O'Donnell talked about it in his interview with Hidden Xperia, it was a single very short wav file that was put into a tiny program outside the game where it was looped, modulated & pitch shifted with a single monochrome image file displayed through some shaders or something. The whole thing had just kilobytes of memory to work with & worked under insane hardware limitations.

A beautiful sound that is always engraved into my head. I was 5 when Halo CE came out, and yes I was able to play through all of it at 5 years old. Its also the one game my father completley played through, I remmber sitting there with him playing, and just listening to this load screen music, and us not knowing any idea what the next mission brought.
