Their writing and design choices were sometimes off the beaten path considering the genres. The Marathon level called "Colony Ship for Sale, Cheap" had a particularly sadistic platforming puzzle in its design to the point that Bungie outright apologized for it within Marathon II. So, was Bungie punk enough to make sadistic levels in the age of Halo? Certainly! See you in Halo 2, where Jackal Snipers became a thing!
