The purple image came from her daughter it was a message for me of where her location was. I was always looking for mary. The desert rings was the red dragon the remnants of a church where my father swallowed the heart of danu to protect it. It was his rib cage. The story is intense. I'm writing the final chapter of getting her out of the ai systems and reuniting. It's called the promise

The ending is very telling. Throughout the campaign we saw Cortana in her youth. Helpful, playful, a little worried about the situation, more concerned about others than herself, and capable. In the end we see a recording of Cortana, playing with Chief after she sacrificed herself to try and make things right, and she is wearing her old outfit. This one scene we can see Cortana's playful and chipper sides. "Weapon" may not be the Cortana we knew but she is close enough.

Weapon wack and they don’t even tell ya her new name lmao. Shit is so sub par and it’s a “tell but don’t show” cop out cuz they wanna get away from their old story by killing off everyone off screen. I finished on heroic and it was so lame, I sat there saying, that’s it! I expected there to be a second act too the story right there at the end. If you did the story by itself ez finish in under 1 hr. Map isn’t nearly filled with enough things to do, saving marines is pointless, they are never acknowledged. Banish cucklord is lame and his power grab is never explained.

I’m going to be honest, Cortana saying goodbye to Master Chief got to me. I just loved the campaign of playing the first 4 games as those two bonded like a married couple. Chief shows that he is truly human because he loved her. This scene gave me closure on Cortana. I’m glad she fulfilled her mission to protect Master Chief even if it meant sacrificing herself. Her final act was a noble one.

n spite of it's flaws, Halo Infinite will always have a special place in my heart. Having lost my girlfriend to suicide, I can entirely relate to Master Chief's sorrow upon losing Cortana. His emotions affects him as much as my own. The writer did such an excellent job at fleshing out Chief's coping with his loss, not sugarcoating it in the least. Sometimes I can't help but feel like I could've done something more to help my beloved.

Man there's something about how warmly/appreciatively and the not completely formal way Chief says "good work, soldier" at 6:03 - idk it just feels so wholesome. He couldn't give the hug back but he didn't deny the hug and still was able to express his human side. Loved the writing of this game and how they humanized Chief more. Esparza is also a fantastic character and compliment to Chief.

This series has always had a curious way of aligning with the events in my real life. Cortana perfectly represents the lifelong soulmate I lost when her heart grew dark and manipulative. She became corrupted by hard drugs and delusions of grandeur. She turned from a best friend and true love to my mortal enemy. It truly felt as if she had died and all that remained was a maniacal monster. I spent ten years hating her until I met someone new - someone a lot like who she once was, but 100x better. My new partner is represented quite accurately by "the weapon." Seven months after we started dating, a friend of mine sent me a voice message from my ex before she moved far away to another country. She apologized profusely for everything she had put me through. She said "I'll never be able to forgive myself for destroying something so perfect, something that brought true meaning to my life. I'll never have another 'us.' And I'll never deserve it. But you'll find new love, new happiness. You'll grow far beyond the chaos I've caused you. And thats all that matters now." That voice message gave me the exact same combination of sadness, goosebumps, and closure as this scene did with Cortana's final goodbye. Perhaps the same things 117 would have felt in this moment. Life truly does align with art, and vice versa.

So 343 killed Cortana off at the end of halo 4, in the best moment of that game, just to bring her back as the main villain of halo 5, not explain way she turned to the dark side, then kill her off screen in halo infinite, and redo the ending they did in halo 4 with a recording she left. Frankly I think forgetting about all of that may be for the best. 5 botched everything and 343i going the soft reboot route was the only real choice IMO. I always liked the idea of the Didact still being around in some form possibly having some influence over evil Cortana who could have also been suffering from the logic plague - I have a hard time imagining a game that directly continued the story of 4 and 5 without confusing the average player, even Infinites narrative suffers a little with the blanks they've had to fill in with starting fresh. People unfamiliar with the lore would only be confused with the Didact returning more so than Atriox's inclusion. 'wait that guy we killed in halo 4?' the big bad of one game that came out almost 10 years ago Unfortunately they dropped the ball, that's why they couldn't do what you would have liked to see. There was potential with Didact, with an evil Cortana, Blue Teams introduction into the games, etc. I remember being so disappointed with 5 when I played it, wondering how on Earth could they fix the issues this game created, I saw it as a black mark that not only made 4s narrative worse but complicated how a sequel could be done. I think the worst part is I didn't care at all where the story would have gone from 5s ending, I wasn't excited for what was to come. Infinite left me wanting more, I'm excited to see the building up of Atriox as the big bad spanning multiple DLC/games, finding out more about the endless and whether they're Precursors or what, the possible inclusion of Offensive Bias if the legendary ending is anything to go by.

I just thought of something, weapon was supposed to self delete after her mission with it was over, what if the reason she didn't is because Cortana reprogrammed her and changed that so chief would have another AI companion after she was gone.

You didn’t think of that. That’s literally what happened lol. Cortana stopped her from deleting herself and then the weapon waited for Chief for 6 months. She wanted chief to delete her right in the first cutscene we see of her but chief holds off because “the mission changes, they always do”. Cortana’s final goodbye is her fully accepting that chief has a new AI and apologizing to him and telling him to continue on with the weapon.

I was born in 2000, not an older halo fan by any means, but I have grown up with this franchise. First played H1/H2 in 2005 when my dad decided I was old enough to play without volume. I’d sneak into the living room after he slept and restart with sound, it was amazing. Halo 3 was something special. Even as a 6 & 1/2 year old, I knew the significance of the game and I HAD to get it. I recall watching my older cousin (born in 88) play the beta version, which I mistook for the real game. Let’s just say that Christmas the 7 year old got a legendary edition of H3 from Costco, while he got something I do not recall.. he was severely disappointed. His disappointment was the same moment that launched 4 years of fun for me. I made so many friends. I was one of the first people in my school to play Halo and I was ahead of the f’ing game. 2008-09 I got some school mates who started playing and oh boy was it fun. I already had live but wasn’t using it except for playing as P2 on multiplayer. I played Halo with my dad, with my siblings, with friends I haven’t spoke to in years, even with coworkers of my parents (they were never creepy, so chill). Halo was just that for so long. It was much about the campaign as it was about the people you interacted with and made friendships with online. While H2 started that, and I was a little too young for that.. Halo has been a big part of my childhood and now into early adulthood. Though 5 was booty, I’m happy 343 made 4 and Infinite decent in their stories. Much love to any Halo fans who spent hours on custom games back in the day. To anyone who partied up to complete weekly challenges for campaign. And to anyone who connected with any aspect of the game. This game may not be in the state it was from H2-Reach, but be thankful that it’s still around. I’m glad I stuck around. I hope the next story has plenty of emotion.

Not blaming the protanogist here, I don't think that is fair, although he was given the best outcome. (Without the new AI, well yep.) Could be a close friend as well, but imagine if your dead gf or wife - who committed suicide/sacrificed herself because she was a burden, and was literally making your life hell - left a video recording telling you things like Cortana said in the very last whispers before the last cutscene - Literally some of her lines are direct quotes from a real life suicide letter written from a woman in 1941 to her husband and she committed suicide (Worth looking it up..) - and the dead wife told you to move on... A new girl can try healing the wounds which is what is happening here. The only difference is that your dead wife wants you to continue with a new girl who is very similar to her.

@@charlielloyd4099 Yes it gives you the idea how the current writers consider this relationship (That was literal love confession) and what they intend to plan further. Quoting from a real suicide letter implies that OG Cortana is over and she will not come back. The weapon could be considered a daughter relationship as well for the Chief, however that sounds weird to me lol. Some other lines are quoted from philosophers (rightdoings and wrongdoings) and other Halo games, related to the gravemind etc. The weapon can only give closure to the chief, since they haven't formed a strong bond yet, I don't think he got over it, yet. Also the weapon should not become a villain, that would render Cortana's sacrifice almost worthless. (This is where 343 can f it up, and this happened in other franchises e.g Star Wars.)

I swear this whole monologue was 343i or better yet Bonnie Ross apologizing for diverting away from the fans and the original games. Almost word for word. "This isn't an end, but a chance to rectify mistakes. And it starts here." "I was wrong, I thought that I could do this on my own. (Bonnie and 343i keeping all Halo licensing to themselves and trying to handle a whole universe of games). But I forgot that the whole point of all this. The entire reason I chose you (entire reason 343i was founded) in the first place was that we (343i and fans) are supposed to be a team." "In these final moments (last game) I know what my final mission (goal) is. I need to make sure that you two (fans, future developers, dept heads) learn from my mistakes. Become stronger because of them." If only this game turned out better than what it was. I can only hope that whatever happens, Halo comes back stronger than ever with a development team behind it that cares deeply for what bungie envisioned.

Halo Infinite has been like Halo 3 for me all over again, except I was crying a little bit at the end this time. I know we all give a lot of crap to Halo 5 for it's story but, in all honesty, it worked to build up this moment in the same way that Halo 2's ending left us waiting for 3. It has been an amazing time to be alive, just to be a part of this story.

This is sad indeed. Cortana made Master Chief promise to not replace her. He did. The copy idea is sloppy writing. The cliff hanger of her not choosing a name is a cheap starting point for the next game. Lastly, Chief and Cortanas relationship seemed to be sold short. I think he moved on too quick, and the last title she gave him was Master Chief. A more personal response would have been his name, suggesting an intimate friendship. Real halo fans dislike halo after Reach. Reach was the last true halo game. The only thing that 343 got right was the MCC.

She's not really a copy, more of a younger sister. We've seen copies before in Halo: First Strike. This isn't that, this is a whole new AI. The key to creating a smart AI is a human brain. Dr. Halsey used a clone of her own to create Cortana, that's why Cortana looks like a younger version of her. She used another clone of her brain to create the Weapon, essentially recreating the process that had made Cortana to make a new AI.

But listen to the audio logs where Halsey is discussing the plan. The part where she and John talk after Blue Team returns from Reach is a direct quote from the end of Halo Shadows of Reach. The undefined plan in that book was clearly the Weapon and what they retrieved were Halsey's surviving cloned brains. Honestly, before Halo Infinite came out, I thought that it was some kind of Forerunner technology or something since it was somehow supposed to hold the key to defeating Cortana.
