These look great, totally jealous! I agree on the quick splicers - been using them for many many years, never had a problem with them - unlike when I used to solder (badly) stuff together and it'd often give issues after a few years of being bumped around. One thing I'd consider is trying to water proof with some quality tape around the splicer, and heat shrink over the blade connector.

@@timothykemp6214 I got one controller, and joined the output to both lights. The controller I got had its “input” wires with c-terminals, which bolted nicely onto my battery terminals. I used some double-sided tape to stick the controller to the side of the fuse box behind the battery.

@robwoof3662 were the wores long enough or did you have to use extra wire? Sorry mate i just want to make sure ive got everything before i buy them! Cheers
@robwoof3662Ай бұрын
@@timothykemp6214 the control box had positive and negative in (to attach to the battery), and positive and negative out (to the lights), which were only about 30cm long. The lights only need positive, so I trimmed off the output negative. I then joined a wire to the output and ran it to the left-side light, and spliced off that on the way for the right-side light. The lights have plugs matching the standard ones for the fog light function, and an extra bare terminal for the halo section power. You need to put “spade” type terminals on the ends of your wires.

Hi Sean, I've got another solution for your halos power. If you wire them up to the window switches fuse then you can turn on the halos with an unlock of the car, and they will turn off when you lock it. Great value. Some heat shrink on the blade connector would have been a good idea- even though the weather there is not so bad. I did think that you may have put the original foam bumper inserts back in as I think they would have raised the bumper up another 1/2 cm or so and really closed up the gap. Personal taste, but the gap is still slightly too wide for me and would not effect the headlight appearance but closed the bonnet gap. I'm an Aussie in the UK and have an old SLK 320 6 speed manual (rocking horse pooh in Oz and changes it from a hairdresser to a bogan mobile) and I did something similar.

IMO using wire splices and crush on connectors is for the average weekender, superior to soldering in automotive applications. Solder isn't really great when it ages and dries, and it's being shaken around all the time - I guess if you are a gun with the solder iron and know what solder to use to get the best results - but for a weekend shlob like me - like he says here I've been using them for 15 or more years now, never had one fail. One thing I would do in an application like this is wrap it to try to make it water resistant.

Just wondering about roadworthy... I'm pretty sure DRL for daytime only, and then at night they either turn off when the headlights are on or they dim. So if you use your foggies at night to turn them off without fog that's also illegal... I know DRLs are too bright to use at night. Isn't there a way to wire them up so they run with the ignition and then turn off when the headlights are on? Just a thought...
@DJBla2e012 жыл бұрын
You can use one of those modules as he mentioned in the video to make them dim, or you could do what I did with mine initially; get a 30A SPDT relay, and wire it so it cuts power to the DRLs when the parkers or headlights are on.
@alexanderbryden683 Жыл бұрын
@@DJBla2e01how did you do that process like could you explain it in a bit more detail?
@DJBla2e01 Жыл бұрын
@@alexanderbryden683 Get a 30A SPDT horn relay from Jaycar, and get a relay socket while you're there; you can just use female spade connectors, but an actual socket will make removing and refitting the relay easier if needed. Then you wire pins 87a and 30 (can be either way around) to your ignition power and DRLs, and pins 85 and 86 (again, can be either way around) to your park light/headlight positive and negative, depending on when you want them to cut out. You could even take this a step further and make them dim by running pin 87 to the same DRL circuit with some resistors and diodes, but this is more complex and steps will vary for every brand and type of DRLs. I have mine dim when either the headlights or fog lights are turned on (also complex as diodes, resistors and extra wiring are required in my case), so if I have just the parkers on the DRLs will remain at full brightness; perfect to use on a rainy day or during sunset/sunrise, so I can save the headlights for when I actually need them.
