From what I gathered so far, Halos make the students invulnerable to all threats, physical or magical. Whenever they get shot, they simply faint like Pokemons, having the Halo "turn off" whenever unconscious/asleep for safety reasons. Because when the Halo is destroyed, so will the lifeline of the Student, as heavily hinted at by Hoshino. The origins of it remain unknown, however.

I think it's kind of a defence mechanism. No one can destroy their Halo when they're asleep. Edit: So I went to ask in "Blue Archive Arona's Hideout" group and I received screenshots from the first few dialogs of Volume 3. And yep, The Halo's aren't the only thing that kills the students, it is the easiest yes, but also sustained gunfire, and extreme explosives capable of dealing high damage to their body and Halo's work too. This means the students are only durable, they can take direct hits and explosives, and may even get knocked out unconscious. But anything more can cause their death. I think the BlueArchive wiki should be updated more since it's the site that people see the most when searching for lore.

My head canon is that the Halos are the visual manifestation of the students soul. I don't know anything about the lore of Blue Archive at all, but what I do know according to reading some comments is that the Halos turn off automatically when the person goes to sleep for safety reasons. TBH, I was so confused why the Halos turned off when the person was asleep, because bro... they are sleeping and vulnerable man: Halos are literally the thing that makes these students pretty much unkillable, why turn off when the student is vulnerable. BUT! After thinking about it, the Halos actually seem to turn on a short moment before the person actually wakes up and also, no one would be sleeping if they were in a dangerous situation and the Halos seem to work even if the person was only half conscious. It also starts to make more sense when destroying the halo would basically be taking away these students' life support and since the student is basically not moving, the halo would be vulnerable. That seems bad, and it does make sense why, but if anything stirs up that could startle the student awake, the halo SHOULD activate a moment before, so even if a sniper targetted the student, the Halo should be able to protect them just in time and the student would just get startled awake. This is all speculation. As I've said already, I don't know ANYTHING about the Blue Archive lore at all. Edit: If you slow down the video from 0:16 to 0:18, you should see the halo appear a small moment before she wakes up.

i dont think that the case tho. in the story many student knocked out due excessive getting shot or hit by Artillery or explosive, and of course their halo is deactivated when they unconscious. if it all it take to kill a student is to knock them out and kill them, death count will be pretty high and they dont need things as 'halo destryoing bomb'

Halo not only enhance a student's abilities (endurance, resistance, strenght, speed, healing speed...) but also act like a health bar. Sure, they can take some serious hit but when it drop to zero, the halo s shattered and that student is gone forever. Take care of your students well, Sensei-s !
