William Mosely Well that's sort of the whole point/message of the game is that while they didn't save Reach, their actions directly contributed to the situation being the way it was in Halo 1. And, Halo 1 ended in a (relative) success. If it weren't for Master Chief blowing up the Halo ring, it wouldn't have struck doubt in the minds of parts of the Covenant. That doubt lead to the civil war in the Covenant. And, that civil war was what opened the way to the eventual victory for humanity. And, it all started due to the actions of Noble Team on Reach.

That is not The fleet of Particular Justice
@mlgosiris66304 жыл бұрын
It's not the fleet of particular justice. In the book, Reach fell within a day, that day being August 30th. The fleet of particular justice was the fleet that completely annihilated the UNSC that day. In the game, the fleet that pops up after you destroy the super carrier is the fleet of holy respite. The game contradicts the book in the sense that on August 14th, an entirely separate fleet assaulted reach (the fleet thats in this video), and the Fleet of Particular Justice still arrives on the 30th. So that means that multiple fleets were involved in the attack on Reach, and not just the Fleet of Particular Justice like the book says. So, book says August 30th, FoPJ arrives at reach, and annihilates the planet (one fleet of 314 carriers). The game takes place over the course of a month. And we can count three fleets that attack the planet (the fleet that arrives late July, the fleet that arrives on August 14th, and then the fleet that arrives on the 30th, which is the FoPJ (which wasn't retconned)).

Yoan Ramos how does it break from cannon tho? Reach was the most technologically advanced planet since that’s where they did their military research and Spartans would’ve been concentrated there because at the time they were still supposed to be a secret and reach fell to the covenant and master chief left reach in the pillar of autumn taking him to the first halo while the arbiter followed him but failed to stop the destruction of halo which is what led to halo 1 and 2 and cortana was made by Halsey using the forerunner artifact we see in halo reach and human dna which is also cannon and dr Halsey survived reach away from the chief because she had someone else getting her to safety I mean unless your just talking about the technology difference I don’t see how it strays from cannon at all

Technically, Jorge bought Reach plenty of time. Evacuating civilians that is. That glassing beam on the CSO would've ended up wiping out Reach in half the time Reach was fought for.
@z3ny1565 жыл бұрын
No it wouldn't, a CSO cant just glass a whole planet just like that, it still takes a lot and I mean a lot of time to glass a whole planet, Reach's city defences would've shot down the CSO if it came too close to glass
@Arinisonfire4 жыл бұрын
The city defenses couldnt hold back the rest of the Covenant fleet who would have arrived either way so I doubt they would have made much of a dent in the CSO. In the end, it still didn't make much difference considering that large Covenant fleet which managed to penetrate below the ODG and begin a full scale invasion immediately following the CSO's destruction as well as Thel's fleet which arrived sometime later and decimated the entire human fleet were made up of over 300 ships, more than enough to replace the supercarrier. I suppose it could have been a blow to Covenant morale, knowing that the largest ship in their entire fleet had been destroyed, and that WAS the only CSO that they had, or that we know of anyway. Its kind of like if in A New Hope, the rebels destroyed the death star, but then a big imperial fleet arrived right after and destroyed the rebel base anyway.

Z3nY you do understand the size of the LNoS? it’s massive, 27 kms in length, it definitely would have sped up the process of the fall of Reach, however because of Jorge’s sacrifice, we had more time. Also in the scene where the frigate, I think Savannah fires a MAC round at the covenant spire ground level, the glassing beam’s energy output from the super carrier was at a very low setting, meaning that the LNoS could have wiped out the entire ship with one massive beam, in stead of only a small beam through the middle of the frigate

Tavian Armstrong imo the Covenant were more powerful at this point. Only effective weapons humanity had were MAC guns from orbital platforms and ships, Spartan IIs, and nukes at this point. Outclassed everywhere else.
@tavianarmstrong9746 жыл бұрын
more powerful yes, but far from creative or strategic (beyond human displays of tactical brilliance like that of Keyes with the keyes loop or cole's final stand or even scumbags like ackerson proved otherwise). The arbiter himself was a better tactician than the heirarchs or any of his superiors. The only reason this invasion didn't falter was by his judgement (the fleet that pulled up after long night of solace was destroyed was his). Had anyone else had command, humanity would have triumphed with a near 95% casualty count, bloody but victors nonetheless. But hey if reach held, Earth was sure to fall right after as chief wouldnt have intercepted unyielding heirophant.
@imperatorvegetarius6 жыл бұрын
The UNSC required a 3 to 1 numbers advantage in space combat to even approach the threshold of a fair fight. It's what won the Covenant the war (up until Earth). But yes, I do quite like that there's a lore explanation for some of the seemingly stupid disciplines and strategies of the Covenant. Putting your officers in progressively more ornate and unique armour, favouring combat up close and personal with your enemies, a dogmatic refusal to innovate or disseminate Forerunner technology on religious grounds (as is evident when Cortana takes contorl of a CCS class and realizes the covenant are using like a quarter of it's potential power output), refusal by the High Prophets to admit they fucked up according to their OWN RELIGION by attacking humanity and Harvest, and then declaring a xenocidal crusade to cover up the truth. It's all based in their rigid, overzealous religious doctrines, and therefore pretty much all the fault of the San'Shyuum. Not to say that there aren't geniune tactical geniuses like Thel and Rtas, particularly at the Battle of Installation 00 where the Separatist fleet was outnumbered by Truth's 3 to 1 and they still claimed a sound victory.
@tavianarmstrong9746 жыл бұрын
that's the beauty of war if you ask me. nothing is set in stone. keyes took on two frigates and a destroyer, an even match for more than 10 ships whether they be frigates or destroyers, solo and won, yes at the cost of near self destruction but he practically the planet. War may be atrocious but i find it undeniable that it can bring out the absolute best in people, and equal bad as well.

That over-the-shoulder look that Jorge gives to Six before slapping the console is fucking heartbreaking. He knows that he'd either leave it or die on the surface, but he won't even take the chance of leaving, so he sacrifices himself. I just got MCC on Steam and I played the campaing in Heroic difficulty. I was pleased when I saw that super ship getting destroyed. "Well, Kat's plan worked", I said. But when I heard "SLIPSPACE RUPTURE DETECTED" I thought: "w-what?". And then it starts to repeat... Big F.

Level by level you see how horrible a planet under Covenant siege is... at first it was a mission to save Reach, but after George, it became a simple mission to do anything they could to hold back the Covenant and give people time to leave the planet. And at the end, it simply became a mission to survive, no more.

It's weird playing this game and realizing how much of an impact Thel had on the destruction of reach, then in Halo 3 he is my best friend.
@Itsjustdoomed Жыл бұрын
When I was younger and did my first playthrough of reach it never even occurred to me what was happening in the story until I got to the ending and saw my fully customized six in that fucking shitty black and red camo everyone would wear go down like an absolute unit.

@noblevi362311 жыл бұрын
Her shields were off because of the EMP from the glassing. That also being said, at least her death was quick and painless. If Jorge survived the incident he was screwed because his helmet was off and would have been cooked from radiation.

@@tavianarmstrong974 one thing that allways bothered a little is that the Pillar of Autumn seemed to be in pristine condition at the end of this game and the beggining of CE considering the amount of damage she suffered at the battle of reach.

For someone, who did read "Fall of Reach" at a time, where Halo 2 wasn't even out... we learned about the individual, who was at the top of that fleet in Halo 2, the player *was* him in the campaign. And then some years later, Halo: Reach came out. I knew what was coming, but the moment it came, it did come hard. Jorge's sacrifice and then Thel jumped into the system. I went on a nostalgia trip just a few hours before writing this comment. Went through some of the most tragic scenes of all the good old Halo games, i even watched a "10 saddest death scenes" video, where Cortana was on second place and Johnson on the first. Echo 419 should have been 3rd, but wasn't. I first played Halo CE, when i was 9, hell this was 18 years ago and Halo CE, just like Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind were my first two XBOX games and i loved both. Please 343, don't fuck Infinite up, like Halo 5. I know it's just a video game, but Halo is part of my life and there is no doubt about that, same goes for Elder Scrolls. My most biggest fear? Dementia. If i would get diagnosed with dementia, i would be gone. My life is not the most perfect one, but nonetheless i had my memories of sheer fun with all the video games i played. For a normal person that sounds like BS, but not for me. Once gamer at heart, always gamer at heart.

One thing I never got: you take out the corvette's engines to prevent it from the reaching the Supercarrier too early. Yet when you activate the Refueling Track the ship heads for the Supercarrier on those very same engines. You can even see them glowing here as it approaches the enemy ship.
@brandonaustin41545 жыл бұрын
What was out was the engine gimbal, think of that as the main steering system for the ship, they were still moving, yes, but with very little control, to change course would have taken a lot of time and drawn a lot of covenant attention.

This hits you as not only is the sacrifice rendered utterly meaningless and you know you are going to lose, the cavalry is not going to come or not make any difference, but Jorge is the best, most empathic, most human of the Spartans, the best gave his life in defence of others, not just his squad or because 'it's the mission' but because it is his home and he genuinely cares about those weaker and not as strong as him - and the best of you is gone all for nothing.
