They wanted the Overwatch, Apex, and Valorant players and they thought that if they made halo like those games then they would get more players from these communities, and completely ignoring the community they already have. They tried to do it with Halo 4 with the Cod community so its safe to say they would have tried it again. By trying to attract other players from other communities they ignore the one that was built up for all these years. Obviously halo does need to adapt or else it might become repetitive, but if their plan or changes activly shatter the foundation of what halo is then they might as well just end halo now and make a new ip for them to use to try and chase after popular game types years after the hype has already fallen for them.

Building a new engine for years with contractors who only stay 6 months is idiotic, nobody knows shit and it turns into cludgy spaghetti code ham fisted together. It's why hyper specialized crews for stuff like maintenance exist, a very specific but infrequent process like rebuilding a machine can go significantly faster and be done better by a traveling crew who only ever rebuild that machine. This is a very common practice in the entertainment industry, small studios get brought in for a few months to work on one piece of the production and at the end of the process they hand it off to the next. Now this new team has to decipher what the old team did before they can even start themselves. While some 3rd party teams are able to stay together throughout several projects and develop a strong sense of comradery most break up after a contract is complete and they have to go off to a whole new project.

And as the game launched, most fan favorite characters were nowhere to be seen so they could be introduced in expansions that also added in new areas and old weapons that were missing. On the flipside, we had a multiplayer with the most restrictive customization that we've had in a halo game since the original xbox. It was missing key game modes/features and was free to play supported by microtransactions. They only supported one aspect of the game, and in my opinion if they had put the effort into supporting the campaign alongside the multiplayer we would be talking about a very different situation right now.

*We knew this though…from the top down…leadership was completely incompetent and had no idea how to manage a company. There was complete incompetence across the board. They got comfortable in their positions with an A+ Title in Halo and relied on its popularity to carry their negligence. Microsoft and 343 choosing to go cheap…and not investing into quality employees and give them appropriate wages/benefits. They ended up costing themselves hundreds of millions more dollars in delays because of it. It’s just the epitome of greed and incompetence that’s taking place across the gaming industry. The amount of layoffs and wasteful spending just so the people at the top and reap all the profits is disgusting. One of the reasons that BUNGIE was so successful in creating Halo 1 through Reach was that it was not only a company…it was a COMMUNITY. They had inside jokes that they included with the fans, they loved and butted heads like a family all in the name of creating the best game possible. It seems like Microsoft/343 has shifted gears and has actually removed a lot of the leadership and has invested into more developers. Everybody at 343 NOW seems to be much more energized and optimistic moving forward compared to years in the past. Halo 7 truly needs to be a home run in order to gain the trust back from the fanbase.*

As it stands right now, I don't see how the next Halo game could POSSIBLY improve upon what we come to expect from a 343i / Microsoft product. You can use a different engine, employ new staff, go in a new direction, and it STILL won't stick the landing. I see a fundamental culture issue at the core of how this studio and franchise has been managed, and you just can't fix that without having a central figure to make sure specific tenants that make Halo special are followed without straying into modern gaming pitfalls. Halo used to be the trend setter now its just following trends. I'm personally not hyped for the next Halo because the people in charge still seem to have an identity crisis over what Halo is at its core, and you can't make a good Halo game if your focus is not centered on the original formula.

Honestly though the management wasn’t even wrong. No matter how much we want to act like it wasn’t a success or people just walked away, it did enough. Halo Infinite made enough and did enough until it became irrelevant for the people handling the money. Same with the Halo TV show, it is absolute slop but people are eating it up anyway in heaps. It’s established enough with enough loyal spenders that it doesn’t matter if the game is great, sure it could become extremely successful if done well, but why take the risk when you can spend less to make good money and have micros? It is too established so now it has no chance.

I can't even say it's Infinite that I, personally, am negative over; it's just 343 in general. They need to be removed; not re-branded, or new hires, they just need to get replaced entirely. They have brought nothing to the franchise other than it's decline in sales and one poor storyline after the other. My friends and I play Arma 3 with Halo mods and it's an "Infinite"-ly better Halo experience than literally everything 343 has ever made.

"I'm tired of talking about how much of a failure Halo Infinite is..." That attitude right there is how 343i keeps getting away with their nonsense. Rather than voting with their time & wallets, gamers seem to just instantly forget about all the shady crap 343i have done to the Halo franchise. 343i could break into your house and you'd forgive them as long as they said "sorry, we messed up" and gave you freebies. As far as I'm concerned, if you continue to play Halo Infinite you have no reason to complain.

its sad because they nailed possibly the hardest part of developing a shooter: the actual gameplay mechanics. they were fun. that in and of itself is an accomplishment. yet they failed on the other aspects which would have made the game great. customization, game modes, proper networking code, social scene, updates, etc. its hard to swallow knowing they got one of the hardest parts of gameplay development down and choked so hard on the other stuff...

That advice to management paragraph in the video really sums up the whole issue. And it's also a great idea to foster an actual team by working on smaller projects with the IP. The next Halo will be in unreal, I have absolutely no doubts, if what they've been telling us about the struggles with the cobbled together slipspace engine is true. It is so much easier for developers to work on an engine that is well documented and well supported, it means training is easier for new employee's as they already have experience working in said engine, it also means you aren't running into code cobbled together by contractors that isn't understandable. I can't imagine how frustrating it must have been with infinite, you go to change one minor thing and it ends up breaking something in the engine because these contractors had very little commitment to the end goal of the project and just got it "working". To ME at least, it does seem like 343 is doing the right things moving forwards, they're stepping away from contract work, seeking developers with years of experience and using a robust engine said developers HAVE experience in. They seem more committed to making Halo 7 right from the beginning. Infinite had its chance at a redemption arc, but unfortunately that ship has long but sailed now, No Man's Sky had already started to turn things around by this point in its lifecycle...

Think your having a rose coloured glasses moment. Minimum content, battle modes and a tiny map pool, deinterlacing and partying issues, a campaign that ended halfway through and most of the story stuffed in audio logs? Like physically the game ran well and they had the mechanics down pat out of the gates but there wasn’t any meat behind it. What infinite has today is probably close to what it should have launched with just on the multiplayer side. The campaign portion sadly was never filled out.
@Tyler-rs3wy7 ай бұрын
If this video isn't enough for you to believe that the Halo universe is in bad hands IDK what is. But in case you looking for more, 343 (contractors I believe) stole a super carrier model from Chokepoint games (the modder group that creates awesome Halo conversions like Sins of the Prophets) and tried to act like it was theirs until Chokepoint pulled out the files.
