I’m loving reading everyone’s interpretations of this song. For me it’s that she hyped up relationships and adulthood so much that when she is actually living it, it’s not the glamorous, fulfilling life that she expected. It’s mundane, monotonous and boring and she’s got to grow up and face that this is it. This is life. It is boring, she asked for all this. It’s not what it’s cracked up to be, but she’s got to grow up and deal with it. It’s quite a sad, mature song for me. As teenage dreams don’t come true and being an adult is realising this and becoming responsible and adjusting to life’s let downs.

Seems to me she's singing about wanting that kid of hers. Ruined plans.. kids do that. Silver plater... hospital tray. Everything I asked for... gift registry. I'm probably wrong but with as many of these songs are about her and the baby stuff then maybe this one is too.

yea this hits for me tw// mention of weight i’ll be 18 next year and i’m a little terrified all of my preteen years i dreamed of being older, having a chance with my older crushes n shit (which i will always want a chance w them duh they’re fine asl LMFAO but i don’t look at them as immaturely i don’t think) and i spent most of my years hating how i look, i’ve just now started to try and embrace my shape. and trying not to keep skinniness on a pedestal. now i have adulthood knocking on my door and it’s scary. and i’ve become more aware of what life can be and ultimately is. i know i have plenty of time, but i definitely wished away and wasted a lot of the time i had as a kid. so i feel like the song. i asked for it.

All that, but somehow more ... I lost my perfect life 3 years ago ... the picket fence, the perfect man, child, dog, career ... because I was still discontented my young girls dreams were unfulfilled. And now I live struggling to stay out of poverty with a man who is very cruel and damaging to me when angry. This song makes me tremble and nearly fall apart.

You know I'm still somebody's daughter, see I spilled the milk you left on me My tears are fallin' flawlessly now [Chorus] Go on and be a big girl You asked for this now Go on and be a big girl Or everybody's gonna drown you out Go on and be a big girl You asked for this now You better show 'em why you talk so loud [Verse 2] You wished upon a fallin' star And then left behind the avant-garde For lemonade in crystal glassеs Picket fences, filе taxes Who the hell is in your bed? You better kiss goodnight and give some head And then next, the morning comes instead Well, is this the life that lies ahead now? [Chorus] Go on and be a big girl You asked for this now Go on and be a big girl Or everybody's gonna drown you out Go on and be a big girl You asked for this now You better show 'em why you talk so loud Well, go on and be a big girl You asked for this now Go on and be a big girl Or everybody's gonna drown you out Go on and be a big girl You asked for this now You better show 'em why you talk so loud [Outro] I want my cake on a silver platter I want a fistful in my hands I want a beautiful boy's despondent laughter I wanna ruin all my plans I want a fist around my throat I wanna cry so hard, I choke I want everything I asked for Ah Ah, ah Ah, ah

This actually is quite classic 90s alternative rock/britpop since it's produced by that guy from that 90s era. The only Swift i found is only in vocal.

@@blitzenius they meant that this song is similar to gold rush in the sense of genre shifting: gold rush at the start has this chatedral choir and then it became more pop and upbeat, I cannot see how this song change in genre instead but this what they meant

Ummm no. This is a Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross production. How dare you have the assumption to create a comparison! Do you even know who trent and Atticus are? Dude, that was pretty disrespectful of you to say .

@@gunkmasterflex942 not comparing dude. She meant the song has genre shift like gold rush. Both have genre shift. Not similar shift. bruh chill out
