Halvarssons Uvan jacket review

The Halvarssons Uvan is a classic, anorak-style blouson jacket. Made from what is known as a foam-coated Polyamide, the chassis of the jacket has a ‘soft handle’, as it is called. Yet the material is strong enough to earn the Uvan an AA rating under EN 17092. The jacket is waterproof, making use of Halvarssons’ well-known Dryway membrane. In terms of armour, the jacket is fitted the CE-approved armour in the elbows and shoulders. There’s a pocket for a back protector, although it isn’t included. We would recommend a D3O protector, although it is not the one recommended by Halvarssons.
The jacket has three external, zipped pockets, a Velcro pocket on the left shoulder and a rather strange pen pocket on the right one. There’s a waterproof Napoleon pocket on the inside; you also get two additional pockets; one in the thermal liner and one in the jacket itself. The thermal liner can also be worn as a destination jacket. It looks like a down-filled jacket, but is actually filled with a hollow form fibre. The jacket is what we would call a standalone jacket. It will zip into a Halvarssons’ pant, but is probably more the kind of jacket that you would wear over a pair of jeans or chinos. Using Halvarssons’ ingenious Waist Zip, you could also attach the jacket to a trouser with belt loops.
The Uvan is designed as a casual jacket. For many riders this may be the only jacket they will ever need. It covers a lot of bases. It will keep you warm, it will keep you dry and it will keep you cool. It is, perhaps, the perfect weekend jacket. But it would work equally well for the commuter who has, say, a thirty minute, each-way daily commute. It’s a very versatile jacket.

I've had this jacket in blue for about nine months. It's an excellent jacket. I prefer to wear non-bike looking kit and this fits the bill. I've ridden it very recently in 0-2°C and with a base layer, shirt and thin jumper underneath I was perfectly comfortable for almost an hour. I got caught in torrential rain recently for about half an hour on my naked bike and was totally dry. With the vents it's great in summer here in the UK except for the really hot days. Highly recommend it.

Nice. Reminds me a bit of the Rev'it Afterburn H20, which I waited for months to get. If this one would have been an option, I think I would have gone with it, instead.

Just taken delivery of mine after I watched this video. It’s bloody comfortable and looks great. It’s on my rack next to my Nivala and I’m picking this up every time to wear. Ok I’ve only had it three days so maybe it’s just that new jacket thing but it’s seriously neat, it just looks cool with jeans, especially off the bike. I’ve kept the hood on for now but I’m expecting to lose it at higher speeds at some point. I can’t say I haven’t been warned.

@@Motolegends I can confirm that even at very high speeds the hood stays securely in place. I'm wearing this every day now. It also works perfectly with the Halvarssons zip connector for jeans.

I'm thinking of purchasing this jacket as leather too hot in summer and I don't always want to wear my full touring suit. Do you think it would be suitable for Spring/Summer touring in Europe?

@@andrewwallwork8297 I would say so yes. You can remove the hood and the quilted inner liner and what’s left is light and flexible, as well as waterproof. It’s got good ventilation too. It’s going to be too hot I think in proper European summer but I reckon it’ll be fine for most types of weather. I also bought the Halvarssons belt zip which lets you attach your riding jeans to the jacket - saves having to wear leather trousers too.

It says Lindstrands on the label, left side of the chest. Isn't that the enduro name/collection from Jofama? And Halvarsson is the touring collection?

In Sweden the brands are differentiated, but over here that hardly makes sense as all the gear is made in the same factory, and at times there seems to be no logic attached to what garment appears in what collection. This year, the new owners have dropped the Jofama name entirely. I figure Lindstrands will probably go next. We have always put everything under the Halvarssons label, and I think that’s what we will continue to do. CP

Been wearing this jacket for a few days now. It is a great jacket. In particular it has long arms which is great for me. Hood is handy but a bit unwieldy. The removeable liner is a bit thin so would not wear it as a jacket in it's own right. The one thing I do not like are the pockets. They are positively tiny. Too small for anything useful. Gloves will fall out, in fact anything will fall out. Surprised it is made in Pakistan but the quality is good so not an issue.

Hi there. I notice the sizes are pretty big in this jacket. I'm only 5ft 8 and about 66 kgs so the smallest size shown on the website would be to big for me. Is there possibility to get smaller sizes? Thanks in advance. Mo

Halvarssons does a pretty good range of sizes although some of the Southern European brands will go smaller. This jacket goes down to an EU48 which is a 38" chest.
