Totally agree! I make really good dry beans from scratch. Pinto, Navy and Great Northern. But that takes hours. Sometimes it's best to open a couple of cans, drain the preservatives off, add some chicken broth, chopped ham, onion, garlic and bake some skillet cornbread. I've even put BBQ ribs meat in there. Smack good, less time. I get it.

We appreciate all you do for the community, Dave. Love these camp cooking vids! Ham and beans was a staple in our house growing up in the 60s and 70s. A divorced Mom with 12 kids always found a great and inexpensive way to keep us all fed. We actually have a "Ham and beans" week every autumn. Everyone makes a meal of H&B and cornbread, then shares their recipes and photos with one another. It's an awesome time that we all look forward to. Looking forward to more of your camp cooking vids... very awesome!

Dave, I'm really enjoying your cooking series. Actually, I enjoy all your videos. Some of what you show doesn't interest me all that much but the way you present the information makes the subjects easy to understand and keeps me watching till the end. I think that is the mark of a great teacher. Even if I don't think I'll use a particular skill you are demonstrating, I'll come away with an understanding of the subject and knowledge is power!. Thanks for all the time and hard work you put into these videos.

Don't forget to pick through the dry beans and remove the junk beans and rocks and dirt clods. I've got to where I do that first thing to a new sack of beans when I buy them and I won't have to sort them when I get ready to cook any, just rinse them really good and soak. Thanks for the appetizing video

Exactly Dave. If I'm around the house and I know I'll be cooking all day I'll soak or simmer my dried beans. If I'm in a hurry, canned is just as good and more convenient but slightly more expensive. No difference to my palate.

Like others, I am enjoying the cooking series and the variety of options. This was a hot meal in hot weather which I’m sure was a challenge but a hearty one. The only thing that I’ve known to enhance an already good country meal has been fried potatoes and onions but I definitely would not turn down this meal either way. Thanks

Yep, that's a good looking meal for sure!!! I grew up eating that very meal from as long as I can remember. Nice recipe for "Bush Pot Cornbread". I can't believe that you actually caught flack for using canned baked beans in the "Cowboy Baked Beans" recipe. I guess some folks have never cooked beans from scratch and don't realize what the actual process involves. Thanks for sharing another great recipe Dave, and for your time, efforts and commitment.

I love this series Dave! Everything looked so good !! I have tried that brand of cornbread and love it . I usually use jiffy mix . I think that some people just like to get a rise out of people! It's to bad that people like to get to do that to others . Anyways if I'm camping I like to prepare ahead for the meals and most of the time if I can use something that's already prepared I will . Please don't worry about that jerk . If he thinks he can do it better I'd like to see his channel lol . Great informative video as always Dave! Take care and stay safe my friend
