Nice catch getting Saba/St. Eustia(?) PJ5/SP9FIH! It’s only ~5 sq. miles/~13 sq. kms.. I worked him while mobile on 8 February. Love the antenna! Sounds like a good stealth setup.

Good one Tim enjoyed what looked like a good number of QSOs coming through there and a simple practical antenna build

Tim, this is awesome! I'm happy that you had such good success with this trapped vertical. Many new hams watch your channel for advice, guidance and encouragement. I'd like to suggest that when testing SWR, you always announce your callsign on the air. Some may be watching and think it's ok to do this and place their license in jeopardy. Keep up the great work! 73

I was testing a 2m set one day which I had just finished repairing. Where my QTH is in Wales is down the bottom of a valley and you generally can't get anywhere on 2m unless it's through the local repeater (GB3BC). I was transmitting into a dummy load to receive on another radio. I was transmitting "Testing....1, 2...." After a few minutes of doing this, I heard over the air. "1, 2"....! I said hello and gave my callsign - turns out it was another ham who lives about a mile down the valley who had a scanner on, scanning the simplex frequencies! We had a good chat.

Nicely done Tim I especially like the no radials. One thing that stops me taking my Commander antenna /P

Like all of your videos great Tim. I'm going to try this antenna at home. Is it worth using a .05 wave counterpoise similar to most efhw? Cheers wayne VK4WTN
@timg5tm94110 ай бұрын
You can do .. I find at 100w and a good swr there is little or no rf issue
@dandypoint10 ай бұрын
Can’t tell if or where your coax or radio connects to the car frame. Usually the most important issue is how the “ invisible” half of the antenna is handled.
@paulsengupta97110 ай бұрын
Doesn't need the car frame. There's no invisible half of the antenna, this is a half wave, not a quarter wave. The outer of the coax will act as a small counterpoise.
@timg5tm94110 ай бұрын
As Paul said below as there is v high impedance at the feedpoint the small return current causes no issue for me on 100w. For surety you can use a choke about 2m from the feedpoint

Great video Tim ! Question: what is the resonance frequency for the trap ? Is it just below 28 Mhz or a bit higher ? 73, Marcel
@timg5tm94110 ай бұрын
Hi Marcel it’s just below 28 MHz from memory

100w it was! The wire is rated for 125w pep

I’m ahead of you .. modelling indicates it might work. However I’m not sure there’s enough wire to play with. I’ll take a look.
