As most processing is done in software it must use Tayloe mixers for both up and down conversion from the DSP board which makes the radio more compact.

Hi Kevin, You made mention of using two lock washers from the old board. When you installed the new synthesizer board, were you supposed to install two of the old lock washers between the board and the case the way the longer screws had lock washers on both sides of the pcb? Those two lock washers would also help space the pcb away from the case. 73 WB3BJU

Nope. I wish I could attach a picture here. The manual specifically states that you're not supposed to put the split ring washers behind the board with a exclamation point in a triangle. Page 14, near the top. www.elecraft.com/manual/E740257%20KSYN3A%20Installation%20Rev%20A6.pdf

I noticed that too. The instructions did say to save two of the lock washers...

I think the instructions were written before they started including the star washers in the packet.

I was just curious, since there were star washers on the inside of the old board.

That's the closest I've ever been to a K3 anything. I have looked at those bands when a friend had a beacon there on my TS2000X. I can hear WWVB real good as I am about 35 miles from it. My IC706MK2G does not hear WWVB at all.

Kevin, don't like the way the synthesizer board is so close to the chassis, course I'm not there to see what is what, but from my screen, I think an insulator made of an index card would be some reasonable insurance against shorts, again, I'm not there to see, just me I guess.

When you were entering the frequency for 630M you were telling it to go to 472.0 MHz instead of .472, and the radio said "No!".
