Thank you Peter for another great video explaining how you use an external VSWR meter. I use a Diamond SX-200 with my IC-7300. 73 KC8WVG

Great video. I got a pwr/swr meter hooked up to my IC-7300 and got one for my IC-705 as well. I've been running FT8 with my IC-7300 on 5w lately. Having the meter allows me to dial in 5w almost perfectly. I've learned quite a bit since getting a meter. Just because the radio has 1% increments, that doesn't mean it's 1 watt increments. If I need to fun more power, I can dial the radio in to how much power I want going out, instead of guessing. Thanks for the video, you explained a lot. 73, W4ISB.

I guess it all depends on how accurate your rigs meters are. As long as it doesn't add loss it's fine to use an external meter. Good video Peter!

Hi Peter, I see a white line in the display of your IC-7300. I had that as well when I just had purchased mine, contacted HAMshop here in the NL and they had me send it in and swapped it for a new one no questions asked. Good service by Icom… 73, Gerard.

great stuff Peter I use a power meter to check and see if I am outputting my 100 watts. Yes there is a good one on the IC-7300 but I like to see the large analog meter move with modulation on SSB. Thanks for the video.

Thank you for all these videos you put up. You have certainly helped me in choosing antenna types and the siting of them for maximum potential. You explain it in a great easy to understand way and I’ve certainly learned a lot. 2E0GXL

06:40, TX was 5 watts, you calibrated to full deflection, but you had the range switch set to 20 watts, was that correct ? Should the range switch not have been set to 5 watts, transmitter at 5 watts then calibrate to full deflection ? Apologies if i'm wrong, i'm still learning. Thanks.

Hi Mr. Stanton. I really enjoy your videos. You always present topics at a level that I can understand. Maybe a really dumb question. I know that antenna tuners really don’t tune the antenna but only match antenna impedance. Is there any way to tune the antenna? Will an antenna analyzer or external VSWR meter help me do that? I’m considering a Zero Five 10-80m 43’ vertical ground plane antenna for my home. I’d like to get as much yardage out of it as I can. Thank you for any guidance or resources I might consult to answer my question, and for your wonderful videos.

I prefer meters like the Daiwa CN901 with PEP reading with a hang. Too many people think their new SSB radios are not delivering the power they have paid for, a good quality PEP reading meter shows that they have their expected power.

Good grief Peter - you have a bad LCD display on your IC-7300. There is a line running along the top of your display !! gasp !!. I have two x IC-7300, one was bought from Waters and Stanton - the first shipment received from Icom and sent to me on 4 April 2016. I see Simon Wilkinson handled the shipment for me. And I bought a second one from MLS six months later. Both of my 7300's are perfect, no issues in the slightest. They both run like a Swiss watch

Hi John, I told Portsmouth I wanted a gash IC-7300 - that is what I got. To be honest it works and dies the job. Will get it sorted one day! 73 Peter.
