I'm in midst of updating mine, I bought it about 1975. I used it extensively for about 5 years and even added GLB Channelizer and DTMF keypad because I travelled a lot and used phone patch. I pulled it out recently, replaced electrolytic caps. Inductor in noise amp was open. In going through it I found several solder joints that had cracked at the board. I also found some of original crystals not working. The second mixer crystal was off by about 6 KHz. Reciever and transmitter stages needed very minor tweaking. But output is weak and I can't find info on adjusting the output stages. I loved that rig and hope to add CTCSS to GLB so I can use it again. I have seen several of these and all had broken fuse holder.

Hi Kevin, thank you for this very informative video. What do think is the problem with my IC-2200H that drops the RF output to 10 Watts in all power level. LOW, MID, and HIGH. At first, it shows the normal output but after a few seconds, it goes to 10 Watts? Thanks!!

Sounds like a bad solder connection. As it heats up, it opens up. Just speculation on my part though.

I have the same radio and the vhf will only transmit 3w on any setting which then drops and holds to around 1.7w after a few seconds. The UHF side of the radio works perfect though? I popped the cover off and the solder joins don’t look the best so fingers crossed that’s my fault to as I just bought it.

thanks for sharing this valuable experience, I was wonder if you have any video which explains component and subsystems of a typical VHF radio transmitter

Hey great video. I have the same radio but the receive is very weak. Just wondering is the receive problems might have some bad joints.

Kevin, Was there any heat sink compound on the final amps? 73 WB3BJU
@loughkb7 жыл бұрын
+Donald D'Egidio none. Thought about it, but with the screws and polished surface, I think a pretty solid contact is made.

Kevin Loughin they should have a bit of heat transfer compound as the finals of the output pa modules is close to its centre...If it lost power on both band's then the problem would be either in relay or common output rail cct...73 M0BFM

Well, ICOM built it with no compound and the radio ran for years and years even with the poor solder job from the factory. The fan runs on keydown regardless of temperature by design, so there's plenty of heat removal. It will be fine. The owner is going to use it in low power mode for cross band operation occasionally, so it will be on a very low duty cycle.

I wonder if all experienced bench men watching videos like this blow fumes away watching? Hi

hi i have a icom 47a has sound no number on screen just the dot.You key mic or tune tuning knob or push buttons on mic seems to do nothing.
@loughkb5 жыл бұрын
You'll want to start tracing power through the board. Look for a dead voltage regulator or bad diode.
