I found myself chuckling quietly as I watched the second half of this video. Remembering days in the mid 1980's when EVERYONE was a radio GOD...The amount of times i heard the GOD GIVEN EDICT that you MUST run Heliax or better from your radio to your amp or your radio would implode was astounding. If ANYONE back then had caught you using RG142 from the radio into the amp, you have been dragged through the village naked, tied to a post in the town square, stoned for a while, then possibly set on fire and flogged with a cat-o-nine. Of course, they had NO IDEA that RG142 is good to 1400v and 1400w under 100ft/100Mhz..and at BEST your going to run 75w down your 2m length into your amp to the get it's 1000w output...easily within the specs of the coax. I also chuckled at the little bitch session about 10m of it being 40 quid in the UK.....damn stuff is $29.99AUD per metre in Australia, good coax for the job if you don't mind living in a cardboard box in a carpark somewhere, not so good if you wish to eat and pay your rent these days.......I can get a 30m pre made length of Hyperflex10 with connectors from M&P shipped to Australia for a little over $70AUD. Better coax by far, with their AMAZING connectors already attached (they are $15 each on their own). I think there's something fishy right there......

Well done Mike. It always gets me how every time we want to make even the smallest change to the shack it has to look so untidy before the improvement!! 😄73 M0DCX

Good luck with the new setup. It sounds good so far. I am curious about the green angle bracket at the back of the desk. Maybe future extensions.? 😂

Looks good Mike. I need to do the same thing here. I ran out the horizontal space some time ago and have been moving up vertically. I need to thin it out bad. 73 Joe

If only IKEA recognised the potential in creating a range for ham radio rooms (move over/qsy Billy here is the Over range). However, they may need assistance to show how much kit can be purchased and stored on a given amount of shelf space. I think that we as hams ought to offer our services to Ikea (others available?) at fitting a "quart into a pint pot!.

I do like a shack rearrange and although i love the DX10 i don’t think i would be putting the 890 to one side..I am actually interested how the two compare as the Kenwood has been on my radar for a future upgrade..73’s

funny you said that the Kenwood is being put back on the desk as I reply...

I hope since you filmed this, you've put the Kenwood back in line! :)

Hi, nice video. I have the same setup (Ftdx10 and an Acom 1000) but I have not connected the amp yet. Need a cable from the 10 pin DIN to the Key in on the amp. Will get one tomorrow. What is your first impression of the FTDX10?

Yo Mike - always enjoy your videos, and this is no different. Really enjoyable. [Aside - I know this is not the subject of this video - but how are the air-air heat pumps coming on now we approach the winter months? We have had air - water heat pump for 15 years so always interested to see how others get on ] / I have a Acom 1000 that has never yet been used in anger (I am 2E0MSR). Was supposed to get the full over a year ago but day job has just got in the way - must complete soon! / Great set up Mike. Mark.

I seem to be redoing my shack into different spots and configurations weekly. It can definitely be a lot of work.

Nice video Mike 👍, How do you find the SP30 sound quality wise with the DX10 compared to the internal speaker?
@mike-M0MSN8 ай бұрын
It's good, but a lot of Bass....

Did you find any SWR difference Mike? Presuming you just swapped Rig for Rig (I know it wasnt that simple) rather than Coax changes etc.
@mike-M0MSN8 ай бұрын
Yes a little different but not that much in it 😊
