Marty makes a great coil. I have three collars on mine, I get 80-40-20 or 40 -20-15 or 20-15-10 depending on how long or short my 17 foot whip is extended and where I set the collars.

So you bypass all the bottom connectors on the mad dog, and just go straight into the adjustable clamp? What is the toroid you have right at the antenna? Cheers, Mike in Alaska

It has a connector below the coil if you wish to bypass the radial socket and use other ground such as a car or the ground from another antenna mount. The toroid is a 240-43 with 8 turns of rg58.

Brilliant! I'm going to order one of these coils (and a couple of extra collars). They are suitably named for mad-dog hams like you and I, sitting in our cars in the dark in middle of nowhere! :-D

Well done tim, great evening scene. Unbelievable, but apart from 40/20m being open to the uk l9ng path, 17m was open here last night long path to the uk and eu, did work a couple of stns, but not really my thing on the higher bands, just 59 59 but over 10,000 miles, so dx I suppose hi. I've just been challenged to get dx with 10w ssb hi. 73 mate.

Yep - I use a single mag mount (my car has a lot of metal as its a good sized saloon). Simple run of 5m of good quality RG58.

It can do 80 this one. My plan is to use at the base of a 12m vertical
