GENEVA (25 March 2022) - A UN expert called today on the international community to accept and adopt the findings in his current report, echoing recent findings by Palestinian, Israeli and international human rights organisations, that apartheid is being practiced by Israel in the occupied Palestinian territory. “There is today in the Palestinian territory occupied by Israel since 1967 a deeply discriminatory dual legal and political system that privileges the 700,000 Israeli Jewish settlers living in the 300 illegal Israeli settlements in East Jerusalem and the West Bank,” said Michael Lynk, the UN Special Rapporteur for the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territory occupied since 1967.

War isn't always a calamity. Many times wars are fought for good purposes. Such as the war against the Nazis. This war is causing some suffering but when it's over all of the Palestinians will be gone from the areas west of the Jordan, they will have new homes somewhere, and the Jews will finally be safe on their land. It will probably take five to ten years, but good things take time.

It is obvious that Hamas' strategy to survive is to play the waiting game and hope that international pressure on Israel is able to save them. The pause was clearly a trade hostages for more time and supplies, but I think the number of hostages Israel was able to get out was well worth it even though it allows Hamas to hang-on longer.

Volker Türk Before being appointed Hight Commissioner for Human Rights , Volker Türk served as NHCR’s Assistant High Commissioner for Protection. Fighting resumed on Friday and hundreds of Palestinians have been killed by Israeli bombardments, he said, citing the Gaza Ministry of Health. No aid entered the enclave via the Rafah crossing with Egypt on Friday, and delivery on Saturday was restricted, further impacting humanitarian operations to support millions amid a scarcity of food, water, fuel and other basic essentials. No safe place Mr. Türk feared the renewed and intensified hostilities would lead to even more death, disease, and destruction. “As a result of Israel’s conduct of hostilities and its orders for people to leave the north and parts of the south, hundreds of thousands are being confined into ever smaller areas in southern Gaza without proper sanitation, access to sufficient food, water and health supplies, even as bombs rain down around them,” he said, adding “there is no safe place in Gaza.” He stressed that international law and human rights law uphold the protection of civilians and the facilitation of unimpeded humanitarian access to people in need. Concern for north Gaza The UN human rights chief also highlighted how hundreds of thousands of people remaining in northern Gaza are at renewed risk of bombardment and continue to be deprived of food and other essentials. He said this appalling situation and the orders to move south means people are essentially being forced to move in what appears to be an attempt to empty northern Gaza of Palestinians. “The world bore witness of week upon week of horror since this latest crisis began, marked by extremely grave concerns around wilful killing of civilians, firing of indiscriminate rockets, indiscriminate attacks using explosive weapons with wide-area effects in populated areas, forms of collective punishment, obstruction of humanitarian aid, and hostage-taking - all forbidden under international law,” he said. He added that extremely serious allegations of multiple and grave breaches of international law must be fully investigated and those responsible held to account. In cases where national authorities prove unwilling or unable to carry out such investigations and prosecutions, international investigation is necessary. Change course now He urged Member States to do everything in their power to ensure all parties comply with their obligations under international law and prevent the commission of international crimes.

Segev later told a New York Times reporter that he had helped finance the Palestinian Islamist movement as a “counterweight” to the secularists and leftists of the Palestine Liberation Organization and the Fatah party, led by Yasser Arafat (who himself referred to Hamas as “a creature of Israel.”) “The Israeli government gave me a budget,” the retired brigadier general confessed, “and the military government gives to the mosques.” “Hamas, to my great regret, is Israel’s creation,” Avner Cohen, a former Israeli religious affairs official who worked in Gaza for more than two decades, told the Wall Street Journal in 2009. Back in the mid-1980s, Cohen even wrote an official report to his superiors warning them not to play divide-and-rule in the Occupied Territories, by backing Palestinian Islamists against Palestinian secularists. “I … suggest focusing our efforts on finding ways to break up this monster before this reality jumps in our face,” he wrote. @@jasonl8326 looks like genocide from here today but to add to your distractions I repeat...High-profile Republican divisions have emerged over the GOP’s quixotic push to impeach President Biden despite an absence of any direct evidence of presidential wrongdoing. With newly minted House Speaker Mike Johnson pushing full speed ahead with impeachment, moderate Republicans are warning against the dangers of launching what voters will see as a politically motivated sham impeachment in the middle of a presidential campaign. Even Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, not normally known for pulling partisan punches, said the Republican-led House of Representatives should stick to its day job of legislating solutions to everyday American problems.

How can you speak without mentioning the 100k plus Muslims who have been killed by Assad and the Houthis? I don’t remember mass protests about their deaths.

How about the 500,000 Syrians and the 300,000 Iraqi civilians killed in the wars there right now? Don't see anyone protesting for them. Nobody cares when muslims are doing the killing. Sorry forgot about Yemen. 377,000.

For context - america took a month of negotiations before it invaded afghanistan. Russia took months before its started bombing ukraine. Whereas IDF started carpet bombing immediately. It wasnt about hostages, it was about bruised ego.

Well damn your memory is short. Israel did not enter Gaza for 20 DAYS after Gaza started this war.

@@adamredwine774 You have poor comprehension, he said carpet bombing. That happened immediately in fact it happened prior to October the 7th on many occasions - mowing the lawn(Dahiya) they call it. Israel is a war criminal state.

and Germany on a pretext went straight in Poland without 5 minutes negotiations. Japan ditto on Pearl Harbour. At least Israel did it to prevent such outrage never likely to happen again! nothing to do with ego. Survival yes !
