There must have been a trade off, a "you tell us what you know and we'll....give you something you need." Maybe free them from prison and send them back to Gaza, maybe give them Israeli citizenship if they do not wish to go back to their previous life, maybe just guarantee them that they will not be executed but only kept in prison, serve a shorter sentence, or be kept in a special prison for the "cooperative witnesses".
