The train at the 02:00 mark is known as the Network Rail "New Measurement Train" which carries out measurements and tests to check the condition of the railway infrastructure. "The light is part of the Plain Line Pattern Recognition (PLPR) system which uses LIDAR technology and a high-speed camera to automatically check for damaged or missing components in the track and surveys clearances to fixed structures around the railway.
