I'm a 5th generation Clearwater native who has fished for and caught most types of catchable fish in the eastern gulf. I love it when you sailors show us video of parts of the gulf that we never get to see! Thank you for that! There IS a couple comments I feel motivated to make. 1. Is Texas gulf waters always that brown? That looked horrible! 2. If I have to watch another sailor catch one more False Albacore (Alberts or Albies) thinking they are tuna/sushi, and cook them or eat them raw, I'm going to hurl!!! A bit of friendly advice for trolling sailors. When you are not 100% sure of what your catch is, definitely don't eat it raw! Some paligics have parasites. In general, if the flesh is a dark red color, it's not good eating. If the flesh is white, enjoy! Keep up the great content!

Thanks for the great comments! Yes, Texas gulf waters are brown 80% of the time until you get over 30-50ft. It's just all that coastal plains silt. Further south Texas is nicer.

there's some great boat design and boat physics videos for both monohull and cats where if you watch them it'll put your mind at ease , your boat could easily be put through 3x the storm and be just fine

It's amazing how much of a storm sailboats can take.

Nice vid. Most people don’t show this heavy stuff. Good job. And thanks. Hey one thought. Try cross tying your dinghy, it won’t swing around anymore. Get two 1 inch ratchet straps, (actually get a multi-pack off Amazon, as they corrode eventually) hook the lifting point on dinghy aft, port side and go horizontally to the starboard davit, and ratchet. Then do the same on opposite ones; starboard lifting point to port davit. Might need a pool noodle on rub points, but the dinghy won’t move hardly at all. Simple and effective. We used to do all kinds of tying jobs and once we did this, life was better.

Funny you say that, we had our cross ties bust. Not on the nylon, but the metal just broke during the storm. 🤯

Now you’re sailing!!! Ask any seasoned sailor and they have a number of storm stories. Speaking for myself, they can be scary, but each time you get a bit more confidence and think about how you can handle things next time. And the. You head out to sea again.

I can appreciate how the confidence builds with each experience. And yes, this was sailing! Cheers 🍻

If you’re sailing offshore in the Gulf during hurricane season, should you have a series drouge on board? Seems like it could be a good investment.
@TheFosterJourney3 жыл бұрын
It could be a great investment. I would drag a line and then a milk crate if it were that fast , luckily we never were over powered by wind or wave during our experience. 👍

I am Looking at a Boat on Ebay It is on a Barrier Island called : Port Aransas, Texas Out Side Corpus Christie . This Boat I have to confirm they have all the sails. S2 29 Ft with what looks to be a Yanmar 2 cylinder a Yanmar #2gm . Which I am No Expert in fact I have never owned a boat. But a 29 ft boat Seems Like it may need a slightly larger engine. It is an 1984 model S2 9.2 cockpit. If I get her I will have to Sail it Back to Tampa area. And have no Clue on a Ball Park on Crossing time frames . Like Minimum length of time and average etc. Any Advice would be great. I am going to have to jump in Head First or I will never get a Boat.
@TheFosterJourney3 жыл бұрын
Not sure if you moved forward on this boat or not...but a crossing from Port Aransas to Tampa could be 5-6 days straight across or 1-2 weeks ICW.
